Yep. It is coming. It will make Pound much easier to avoid.
At the same time it will make travel to this area and OUT of it easier.

Any improvement in the infrastructure will help us all.

If this is going to happen then it's good news for pound. We would have more company's come here and then people good get jobs to provide for their family. We could stay here instead of moving away like soooo many people are doing. Hope it comes soon. What kinds of businesses would people want to work for?.

Businesses that you drive two hours on the new parkway to get to.
It will bring some things...but we will no longer have traffic from Clintwood
funneled through Pound. All traffic from 83 will connect to US 23
before you get to Pound.
Pound will be on the way to nowhere, then. What will be left of downtown
will die a pretty quick death. Any business will be on US 23 or will suffer.
You will be able to fly through NE Kentucky and S West Virginia to Beckley.
Do they have many jobs in Beckley?

Could the town of pound relocate to four lane? Isn't it n a flood zone? Could the town get a grant from the army core to relocate to 23? Just a thought. Will the new town mayor and council step up to the plate?

What section of Pound area will be altered on US 23 for the Coalfield Expressway? Will the four lane on US 23 between Wise and Pound be considered part of the expressway renovation?

The road between Wise and Pound is not part of the expressway, Pound is the southern terminus(southern end)of the CFXway. From what I seen on a map a few years ago, the interchange is suppose to be where the Valero is located on the four lane or in that general area, it may have changed due to potential coal companies involved.

They didn't so much offer as demand. He has enough connections to somehow hold on to his land . He was trying to have it listed as "Virginia's oldest working farm" on some historical registry.

Melvin got a laugh out of that one. Varson, let us see..didn't he work for NASA years ago?
Maybe it was a NASA contractor but I'm thinking he did. To see the article I read it gave you the idea they were busy with livestock, corn and keeping the old tractor running every year since Hoover was President.

Goodbye City Life!!
Green Acres We are THERE!!!

IF the state declares imminent domain and claims your property for a huge highway project...99 times out of 100 you take the money and run...you HAVE no other choice.
BUT there is some due process involved on the price, I'm sure and you CAN always appeal for certain grounds, I'm sure.

Maybe they decided it was cheaper to go around the Varson's place. Put it over where Francis Powers grew up. Pave that under and Virginia's oldest farm will be fine.
