Once again, the topic has gotten way off base. The topic is supposed to be Mr. Epperson being named the superintendent of CCSD. I agree with Ms. Schmitt's assessment of what he needs to do. I also agree that ALL of the schools in the district need to be treated equally. Mr. Epperson has his work cut out for him. I would hate to be the one who had to come into the district and TRY to straighten the mess that is ongoing.
As an employee of the district, I can honestly say that I'm sickened by the tension in the district. There's a battle between the district and the union. There's a battle between the district and the teachers and other employees. There's a battle between the parents and the district. And these are only a few of the battles that have been going on for a long time. This really isn't a school district as much as it is a war zone. And frankly, I'm not so sure the battle between the district and the union is a battle at all. The more I think about the contract negotiations, the more convinced I become that there was some "cahootin'" going on between the union and the district. But even if that is true, I think we're all forgetting the most important thing in this whole mess. We're all supposed to be in this for the students. All personal agendas need to be and should be put aside and we should work together as a group to provide our students with the best possible education to prepare them to get out into the real world and become productive members of society. That will not happen as long as teachers are being treated as slave laborers and administration is acting like slave owners. It has become painfully obvious that the district does not trust the teachers they've hired to educate the students. If they did, there would have been no need for any kind of contract negotiations. When you treat employees as valued members of your team, when you trust them to do their jobs, when you give them the respect they have earned through their years of dedication going to college to earn a degree, you get the kind of school that students and teachers want to be a part of. By the same token, if you respect those in charge, treat them as valued members of the team, you get the support you need to make a wonderful educational environment. So, the blame lies not just at the feet of the administration, teachers and other employees must take their share of the blame. It's not too late for CCSD to recoup and become the kind of district we'd like for it to be. But the only way that will happen is if the pettiness and personal agendas are put away and we all agree that we're here for the students.

wow, can't believe all the comments made about so and so... My child just finished at KMS and I DO NOT want my child attending any CCSD school after reading all the posts. Education of students should be THE priority!!!! Kirtland High does not need to send students to the Mormom Seminary!!!! They let that happen, Shiprock High should have traditional ceremonies for their students...Didn't Farmington High not make AYP??? Farmington commentors need keep quiet...We elect the school board; about time to vote out the Mannings!!!
