Rebuilding black-Jewish relations?

In the crosscut of the American landscape, there have been times when members of the black and Jewish communities have been at odds. Brick by Brick: Rebuilding Black-Jewish Alliances, a panel discussion hosted yesterday by the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, provided a forum for discussion between the two groups. The panel featured NYU professor Hasia Diner, professor R. L'Heureux Lewis of the City College of New York, Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind and Kelvin Alexander, deputy chief of staff to New York State Senator Eric Adams. Adams was scheduled to appear but could not attend, because he is currently in Albany working on the state budget.

Let's Get Real
Zionism is not, per se, a B;lack problem. It is an international problem. Look at Gaza, or Jenin for examples of the international components of Zionism. Same with Evangelicals (The assault on Africa by missionaries,) and radical Islam. All nations and all reasonable individuals should be concerned.

With respect to African Americans, we need to broaden our vision. If other cultures and religions are viewed as problematic, then Blacks face a long, a very long list.
Spanish speaking people compete for jobs traditionally held by Blacks.
Asians fill jobs that upwardly mobile Blacks might otherwise compete for.
Outsourcing of additional jobs to the four corner of the earth represents still another problem.
The white Western oriented power structure presents a serious problem, to the extent that it is exploitive of African Americans in the United States and African nations abroad present a pressing problem.
Southern whites holding traditional views on race, Reagan Democrats and unions, closed to Blacks, or those that segregate within their ranks present additional threats.
With respect to Jews: Blacks have had difficult relations with that group, also. Militant, xenophobic, ethnocentric Jews and financially exploitive Jews are a distinct problem. But Blacks should never forget the scientific, social and educational contributions of Jews. In particular, the liberal Jew has frequently been a friend to Blacks. Obviously, much had to do with goals and objectives pursued by Jews; but, Blacks should never forget that so many gains achieved in recent history came about as the result of white Americans, including Jews, who sacrificed much.
Check out the McCarthy Hearings, for example. The Congressional Committee on unAmerican Activity was--at its core--a racist operation and it signaled out whites, many of them Jews, who were in the forefront of the battle for Civil Rights. Check out Ronald Reagan or J.Edgar Hoover. Both used their powers to attack the very people who fought for Civil Rights. Read about the assassination of MLK, the real story, or of Malcolm X.

Many Jews are racist to dark skinned muslims and also dark skinned Jews.
Israel grants the white Jews citizenship time the get off the plane from Europe but the African Jews and Muslims are called names and treated different.

What about the jews who were heavily involved in the slaves trade?What about the jews and israelis who were the strongest backers of the apartheid regime in south africa?Jews are jews ,blacks are blacks .They dont have common interest.Jews never suffer racism and genocide in USA.They were up there with their whites fellows.In south africa ,the ashkenazis were among the worst oppressors of blacks.Semitic people(arabs,jews) are the natural enemies of the black race.They must be fought and not love

I agree with your main point. It doesn't erase the parallels between Blacks and Jews. For example, Jews were confined to ghettos. They were pressured to adopt Christianity and they've been separated from their original land. If this thread is about "rebuilding black-Jewish relations," then maybe that's where folks should start.

Again, IMHO, Blacks have many, many competitors. We waste time and energy focusing on one group. We need a comprehensive approach that attacks a multifaceted set of problems.

P.S. Jews have experienced oppression in the U.S. Actually, next to Blacks, Jews account for a greater number of lynchings. In the South, in certain areas, whites refused to trade with them. For many years, Wall Street would make major trades during Jewish holidays in order to prevent them from purchasing stock in targeted companies.
