I can't believe this deli is closing....this used to be my neighborhood place!! It hasn't been the same in years, but they better not replace it with another fast food restaurant! I can't believe how many there are in that area!! We'll miss you Nick! Good Luck to you and your whole Family!

Oh, Nick left a couple of years ago. He and his wife traveled quite a bit and then got bored. Believe it or not, he sometimes helps out during busy times at Frankies in Hopewell. Rented the store out to some folks he knew and they've had it since then.
No were near as good as when Nick and Nina (?) had it though. He apparently got an offer from WC that he couldn't refuse. I know what he turned down for it about 10 years ago so I suspect even in todays economy it was still a LOT of bucks. Good for them.
But WC going in there just plain sux

Hi, this is Nick's daughter, Nina. I just happen to Google South Gate Deli for fun and I saw this page with your posts...not sure if you have passed by the deli or heard anything, but Nick is in the midst of renovating the store before he re-opens. Doors should open soon...hopefully in a few weeks! I know my parents are so excited to come back. They miss their neighbors! I'm excited too, being that I grew up with this business.:-) Thanks for your concern!

And I'm really embarrassed Nina as I frequented the Deli for years. It must be old age setting in but I'll be danged if I remember your Moms name?
Oh, so happy they're back. It wasn't at all the same with those other folks there. Nice enough people but....
The people in the development and area will all be sooo happy!

Yes, renovating as we speak! And my mom's name is Chandrika, but you can call her Rika. Go ahead and spread the news...Nick is coming back!:-)

Thanks, oh I am. As you probably know, when they re-open the word will spread like wildfire around the area. Last time I saw your Dad he was helping out Anthony down at Franks in Hopewell.

Haha, he was always trying to find ways to keep himself busy. It was a difficult transition leaving the business and entering the leisure life!

Tell me about it. I retired recently. I may ask Nick for a part time job. ;-) He**, I could walk to work.
When he told me he'd set those other folks up I was kind of shocked. I figured they'd miss the people but also figured they'd settle into leisure. They certainly have to have the resources to do whatever they'd like to. That place was a freekin' goldmine! And I'm sure with them back at the helm, it will be again.

Visited South Gate Deli today for the first time since they reopenned, and I must say they did an awesome job reopenning! They have everything from coffee, candy, chips, hot and cold sandwitches, drinks to lottery and atm. Im so glad they are back...so conveinent and yummy!! Make sure you try their Italian cold sandwich when you go, it is delicious!!

Agree! I had a nice talk with Nick and Rika the other day. Nick said that they may do an ad now that they have Lotto and their alcohol license back.
