So there is a sign on each side of the road by BOCES in Norwood stating that there are people crossing across Rt. 56. Soooo why are there people crossing there? There is nothing across the road. Are they promoting smoking of students across the road?

I drove by the "Students Crossing" sign also, and saw 6 or 7 students smoking on the side of the road. Now - I am all for keeping the smoking students safe....... but maybe they would be safer not crossing and smoking at all. How much do those signs cost anyway? I think a lot.

They DO NOT let students cross the highway there, are you serious!?....That is a vacant lot across the road, and the tobacco policy is highly enforced there. Get a clue before assuming or being "curious"...the flashing crossing signs are to warn you that there are school buses pulling in and out of there constantly and to make drivers more aware; NOT TO LET KIDS SMOKE ACROSS THE ROAD! There has been many vehicles rear-ended waiting to turn into the school, so in an attempt to make the turn in/out more safe, signs were installed. Believe me, no one crosses the road. Yes, you will occasionally see cars parked in there, but they are usually construction type vehicles or police. ANYWAYS, the BOCES you speak of(which its not actually, its a Technical and Career Center owned by BOCES) HAS CHANGED A LOT and is attempting to improve their image, but I guess it is hard to change the minds of the ignorant. So ... if they don't cross the road - how do they get there? I see people (students) standing there, smoking when I drive by. Also - I see cars parked there with smoking occupants in them. Not ignorant - just observant.

I am pretty sure those signs are for "crosswalks" and not for cars pulling into BOCES. I guess hahaha is the ignorant one!

First off, I love the tech center BOCES. BUT where are these cross walks, not marked on the pavement, there is just a sign right?? The one place in Norwood doesn't have marked walk ways on the road, but the Ogdensburg one does. Yes, one of the signs is a pedestrian sign, but the flashing signs are there warn people about the cars driving in and out like they said above and say "driveways"under the sign.

I think we forget as we drive by, that not only is there regular high school kids there, but there is also three other buildings with Adult Ed classes and Youth Programs for kids who aren't in high school. They don't have the same rules as the regular kids, believe me.

The regular students aren't allowed to go smoke there I was a student there too a few years back and kids were awful sometimes. BUT now they have a brand new principal who doesn't let them go anywhere off campus.

There were a group of creepy janitors AND the Adult Education Students that hung out over there and smoked when I went there, but my little sister goes there now and she says that you can't even breathe sideways let alone cross a road without getting in serious trouble.

But anyways, BOCES kids are not all BAD, yes there are a few, but there will always be bad kids as long as there are "interesting" parents among other things, but things are different now, they seem to care more about their kids then when my dad went there in the mid- 80's. Don't condemn the group for what you may have seen and mistaken for regular high schoolers.

But anyways, I guess my point is, why are we digitally "fighting" over signs and possible sightings of smokers? If you have something bad to say about the BOCES Corporation that is completely FINE with me because I think they are very top-heavy, but please NOT say bad things about the actual tech centers, they really do help a lot of people find their careers and gives them skills. We need to support the skills and trades because that's all we have left as a country, and it gets kids off of their phones and computers and teaches them something they can use.

says you are from Gouvie, I think they are talking the norwood one. I'm not sure how the Gouvie one is, but by what you stated I guess the original post is accurate for that center over there.
