This would really save us taxpayers money. Hopefully this time it will be followed through.

Most businesses make adjustments, curtail expenses, down size and absorb the ecomony to stay open. The school is downsizing. Districts are looking at consolidating. The towns and villages should as well. End the village and have one entity. It is the best for the future and the current tax payers. Gouverneur would once again be at a stage they can grow and propser. We simpy cannot afford the luxuries we continue to try to provide.

Dissolutions save very little money; what they do is force the residents of the towns to pay thier fair share, thus causing the tax rate for the former vilage residents to go down. If you want to save money, you need to cut services. All you need to do is go to your current village board and tell them which services you want to get rid of. Unfortunately, no one wants to get rid of ANY services. You can't have your cake and eat it too, services cost money. Either you pay for them as a village or a town; but they still have to be paid for.

It's coming again. Heck, in Norwood the mayor wants to sell the fire dept's equipment and disband the department. He's claiming the power to throw out any member he so chooses. Anything to save a buck.

Heck, our mayor thinks he owns this village. Good thing he has no control over the FD here or they would be screwed as well.

I agree with most of this post. The tax rates do displace and appear to save very little money on dissolution studies.

As for services like the GPD, it would then be up to the town and former village residents as one to decide whether or not to fund them. The town has to understand the GPD spends a lot of their time outside the village limits and village residents are sick of footing the bill.

Also, two DPW's wouldn't be necessary. At least not the level they're at now. The town plows could now come in the village and plow.

Also, we'd save money by not needing as many of the folks in the village offices either.

All around it's going to happen. All industry has disappeared from the area and a village with it's current services cannot be supported. It's due for collapse.
