I guess the foreclosure crisis has finally hit Potomac too. The vacant house syndrome has hit Monkey County as of this year and it is caused by specualtors..the same as high gas prices.

Where does it say that the house was vacant?

It just said that no one was home at the time, meaning that they were not there, not that they vacated it and were plagued by the foreclosure crisis. However, every county in our region is being affected by this crisis. Monkey County as you refer to it is not immune to this problem. But too many people over bought and mortgaged themselves to the hilt. That's their problem that will have a ripple affect to everyone with interest rates and banks being tougher on everyone.

I agree- It could be just a sad event, but it does seem pretty suspect that that a house that new (with all the anti-fire devices used these days) went up that quickly and that completely... it will be interesting to hear if it was an attempt to forestall foreclosure with an insurance settlement.

Maybe they were home and were smoking crack, and that is what caused the fire. It happened to Richard Pyre.

The post says that the house was built in during the 1920's or so...so it may not have all of the fire retardent technology that is available today.

I doubt very seriously that the fire was an attempt to forestall a possible foreclosure. It looks like the fire had considerable headway before it was discovered.

It could have gotten a pretty good start before anybody knew there was a fire, but a house like that usually has fire sensors and alarms,

probably not arson

The fire apparently started either outside or in the garage, according to news reports. If the vinyl siding was the first major component to catch on fire, the fire would not have been detected by those inside the house for quite a while.

It's suprising that a house this expensive would have vinyl siding.

This house did not have vinyl siding. This is Potomac not Gaithersburg.

Ah. Yup, Potomac's so much better. Can't you tell? The houses are built so much better that they don't even burn.
Get over yourself. Do you really think building materials that are more expensive make the house less likely to burn? That's pretty naive.
