Stuck Up People

I love living in Poteau. Everywhere you go, you will have differences in classes. Poteau itself is great, and I plan to raise my 2 boys here. I can't believe that people have this much time to bicker at each other.

Good grief! This place sounds like a bunch of drunken foul-mouthed CBer's on a Saturday night yakking on channel 19. For you folks that think people in Poteau are stuck-up, check your language you're posting on the message board. I have yet to come across anyone who spouts off profanity and negative comments like the ones I am reading here, who could get along with anyone in real life! Me thinks the log is in your eye! Clean up your act, your attitude and your mouth and you might find the world around you beginning to change a little toward being more pleasant.

There is nothing wrong with Poteau that can't be found "wrong" in most small towns in the US of A. Poteau is a good place to live, with good people for the most part. There will always be a few snobs, there will always be poor service in some businesses anywhere you go and there will always be foul-mouthed ignorant people spouting off about how bad others are so they can feel better about themselves.

Funny, but i've been in this area and shopping in Poteau, for the last 16 yrs...I have yet to meet a "snob" from Poteau. Poteau is a nice small town. Don't be afraid to move here!

I live in Southern California (Los Angeles County), and I used to spend every summer with my aunt and uncle back in Howe, Oklahoma, and we'd always go to Poteau, Monroe, Heavener, etc. I don't think I ever came across a snob anywhere there. Coming from Southern California, the people in Oklahoma all seemed extra nice and easygoing. I loved it back there. And I hope to go back there soon!

there are snobs every where not just poteau,even in our town of wilburton there are snobs but we don't pay any attention to those kind of people cause we are just one under god's eye. he knows who we are, we came here not having anything and we will leave not having anything so think about those snob people will they be happy then ( don't think so) so they well reap what they sow.

I have lived in 11 towns in 6 states. Poteau was one of them.

It is the sorriest town I ever lived in. What are considered lower middle class people in most areas think they are really some hot stuff in Poteau 'cuz they "got money".

Most depressing place I ever lived. Glad to be gone.

Reminds me of a story I was told was: A man came to the gate of a city and asked the gatekeeper "What kind of people live here?" The gatekeeper replied "What kind of people lived in the place you came from?" The man said "Oh, they were awful people-snobby, hateful, uncaring" The gatekeeper said "That is the kind of people you will find in this town"
Another man came along and asked the same gatekeeper "What kind of people live here" The gatekeeper asked him "What kind of people did you lived in the place you came from?" We relocated to Poteau-both my husband and I have traveled extensively-and we love it here.

Ah yes, that is a favorite story of mine. In fact, I used the principle of that story to blame myself for my opinion of Poteau for a while.

But ultimately, I could not get around the fact that I did not see the same thing in any of the other towns I lived in. I loved them all very much and hated to leave them all.

I am curious how you get around that fact. I couldn't.

That is absolutely not true. Poteau is a depressing, evil place with a few good people in it.

yes poteau is just as good as anywhere. This isse is not new to here or the rest of the country. I moved here 8 years ago and from an outsiders point of view, it seems almost everybody here hates almost everybody else. Dorie over at Dori's Cuts 2 Pleez went on a mission to tell everyone who'd listen that I was a drug dealer. I started a business, had a crew of 7 that travel all over and all lived in poteau. She destroyed that for me with her mouth. I still get talked about. My daughter played a soccer team coached by a prominent lawyer (here in town) and his wife. She barely got into any games because the lawyer didn't want my daughter on his team. He shot off his mouth about my supposed occupation to everyone but me. D.A. knows about it, but won't allow me to do anything because "outsiders need not rock the boat". Stuck up? yea, it appears that way, but its not everybody. And I refuse to paint everybody with that brush.

I call BS on this. What did you expect the DA to do about it, slap his hand? If the lawyer-guy was smearing your name and you can prove it with a few witnesses then "lawyer up" and sue him for slander/defamation of character. Just because you are an "outsider" doesn't mean you throw away your legal rights. If you can't get witnesses then confront him yourself and put an end to it like you should have done with the pet care gal.
