I am also disappointed ! To learn my tax dollars are spent bussing kids to the catholic school! This is outrageous! Forget about the neighborly thing the school district should have considered the legality of it. This is not the taxpayers responsibilty!

As I understand it, your tax dollars are not spent busing kids to catholic school...their parents pay for the service! Well, used to pay for it before the services were cut.

Go to the patch.com full story...the subheadline.
"Following nearly 30 years of FREE busing for St Damian school Students"
further in the story...."the state of illinois cut the district's transportation funding by approx 50%"
Everything that I read in this story leads me to beleive My taxes have been used to bus the St Damian School Students. Since it is your taxes and mine, that the state of Illinois gives to the school district for their transportantion fund.
Nothing is FREE..........it is paid by taxpayers.
Only last year did the parent pitch in $100 for this service. Which I am sure did not over the full expenses of transporting a child to and from a school out of the district, for 180 school days. That is 55 cents per day.

If St Damian students were untitled to bus service paid for by our tax money, the state would have mailed the check directly to the their school. They wouldn't have had to rely on neighborly district 145 to make the arrangements

well, some public school parents don't think it was fair to offer free/reduced bus service to Damian children, however, I pay my taxes to the same district for the public school and don't take advantage of anything the public school has to offer since I choose to send my children elsewhere. Should I then get a rebate from my taxes since my kids aren't using the public school?? I would think that as long as I am paying taxes and NOT asking them to educate my child then a few bus rides would be a fair exchange. But, let the parents continue to whine.

That was your CHOICE to send your children to a private school. When you made that CHOICE you knew what you were forfeiting. You could have made the smarter CHOICE but didn't. So quit whining and live with it.

Yes, it was my choice, a wise one, in my opinion. I am not whining, just stating what would be fair since those of you whose children benefit from my taxes also think it's fair to take away from my kids but let your kids take it all without a problem.

I am not catholic. I dont like anything about the catholic church. I do not want a single penny of my tax dollars going to the support catholic schools in any way shape or form!

Those that make the conscious decision to use a private schools, thinking it would give their children a one up on the rest of us, should expect to pay in full for their education. Including transportation to get there

Not my problem how your kid gets to the catholic school and I'm glad the free ride is over!

Should the SD pick up the tab to bus kids to a Muslim, Baptist, Jewish Schools ? would you want your tax dollars paying for that as well?? Or just Catholic Schools? Whats fair is fair.

I was not saying there should be a "free ride," simply stating that as long as we are paying for it, they should not have cut it. What about a rebate for me since I am not asking the district to spend the money to educate my child? Talk about "what's fair is fair," I think bus service, paid for by me, instead of a year of educating my child is fair.

You were not paying for it. That's why it was cut.$100 per year comes out to 55 cents a day for round trip bus transportation. That would definetly not be enough money It was a neighborly gesture for the school district to pay the majority of the bus fee but I am sure
It is an illegal allocation of funds. They cannot make up rules and pay what they want to pay. the money they receive from the state has specific stipulations with it.

If any of the catholic schools were legally entitled to bus transportation the check would have been mailed directly to the school to pay for their own bus services.

Do you take the cost of private school off your income taxes??

You were well aware of the laws before you chose the school You chose not to have the state educated your child at a public school It was your option so why cry foul and ask for unwarranted rebates now?
problem solved

If you want to pay for bus transportation for your child to and from St Damian. Call a bus service and Get quotes. See what it really costs. Them you can split the cost with all the St Damian families that have been effected. Problem solved.

every one pays into the public school systems via their taxes. I don't have kids in school anymore should I get some sort of rebate??! No, that is not how it works. You choose where your kids go to school and it's your tough nuggies if you choose the catholic system over the public school system.

Just like it's a choice to have children and if you can't afford pay for everything which includes an education, then don't have children!!!

Your comment sounds as two faced as it gets!!!! When a child attends a private school, a parent pays for everything. In this case, a parent was getting free bus service. For a public school child, everything gets paid on the taxpayer dime. What a joke of a statement!!!!

apparently you do not know the meaning of "two faced" but anyway,
Public Tax dollars paying for religious school expenses is ILLEGAL. I am sure since this has been brought to light and they rightfully cut this service it has opened up a can of worms for district 145

Just think what it would do to our tax bills if all the private schools closed and sent their kids to public schoools. Then you would have reason to bitch. The cost of transporting kids to St Damian's is like a drop in the bucket. I wonder how many kids will have to switch because of this change? Just that cost would probably pay for the buses.
