IDOT shares interchange plans :: The SouthtownStar :: Crestwood :: Midlothian :: Oak Forest :: Posen

Feb 12, 2009 Full story: www.southtownstar.com 16
For the better part of two decades, Midlothian Mayor Thomas Murawski has wanted an interchange between Interstate 57 and Interstate 294. It looks as though Murawski is going to get his wish in the next few years. Representatives from the Illinois Department of Transportation discussed just such an interchange at a Midlothian Village Board meeting last week. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2011 and will take at least three years, maybe longer. The price tag will be about $500 million, they said. In addition to entrance and exit ramps built between the two highways, other feeder roads will need work to accommodate the increased traffic, particularly 147th Street, Marie Glynn, IDOT representative, said. The stretch of 147th Street they are focusing on extends from Kedzie Avenue on the eastern edge of Midlothian through Posen to Dixie Highway. The project would install a central turn lane, increasing 147th from four lanes to five. People attending the meeting asked about the impact of the project on residents in the area. Glynn and Don Jakesch, project consultants, said the process of notifying impacted residents will begin soon. Also, there will be a public hearing on the construction project later this month. Glynn said some residents' homes will be bought by the state to make way for construction. She said the state will attempt to relocate residents within the community. This is a perfect illustration of the Tom Murawski B.S. Machine. This interchange would have happened with or without influence from His Royal Highness. Does anyone think for even one second that someone at IDOT or the Toll Authority sat in a meeting and said "Tom Murawski from Midlothian really wants this interchange, so we better do it."? If Murawski had any influence whatsoever, why is it that 147th street improvements end at Kedzie? Not a single inch of new asphalt will be laid in Midlothian.

$500 million, and displace homeowners because people are too lazy and don't want to be slowed down by just exiting either road on 159th Street and driving 1 mile to get on the other.
500 million that could be put to some outher good use.
500 million that could be used by the surrounding for other improvements.

Thats why they raise or want to raise our Taxes, so they can piss it away and then want more. Why hate Midlo because of a Posen Mayor?

I like the Posen Mayor he works hard. I hate Midlothian cause they think there this bigshot town but they are the lowest suburb around. This starts with Midlothians mayor and some of the trustees.

Posen has come along way with alot of work, between many different boards over the years. Maybe thats what Midlo needs...

Pass a Village Ord./ Mayor can only serve 2 terms.

Most Mayors are like dirty diapers
They are full of crap and need to be changed
from time to time....

So change it is

Posen has not come as far as many people think, and none of the southland mayors, Schupek, Murawski, not any of them should get credit for this interchange, it was proposed over twenty years ago and was put on a list that its finally made it to the top of. Posen and Midlothian are both in trouble economically due to our village administrations, Posen's books just dont reflect it yet because our village doesnt pay to do anything that needs to get done, thus our town looks like a dump. The interchange has the potential to help both of our towns, but only if competent administrators are brought in who can effect change and lure solid businesses into Midlo and Posen. Terry Stephens can do this for Midlothian and Juanita Goodwin can do it in Posen because Murawski and Schupek just dont have the vision or the wherewithal to make the necessary improvements.

Also, there is still no guarantee that this will ever happen or be finished as a the IDOT funding is not applied or guaranteed whereas Illinois Tollway is. Also, there is no guarantee on any coverage of funding for project overages which could mean project cutbacks, fewer lanes and other little surprises that Village administrators will be kept uninformed on until they actually occur because the state loves keeping every key detail underwraps.

Juanita Goodwin is a baffeling idiot as a Trustee for Posen....Everything she has been involved with over the years has turned into a cluster...from her days involved with St. Stans, Posen Little League, and Breman Boosters she has always been involved in "questionable" things...She would be the last person to be a "competant" leader for Posen!!!

Once again you are entitled to your opinion, but I disagree. Plus, your idea of competence is staggeringly offbase. Juanita is by far the most competent person on the entire Village Board. You act as if she single handedly brought down all three of these entities. Juanita is the only reason we even get half an answer to a question from our Village Board and the Posen Together Party's open government platform is exactly what Posen needs...not four more years of Schupek. Also, if she was a baffeling idiot? Why to PTP signs outnumber Schupek's CPP signs on a 20 to 1 margin, why do the majority of residents at Board meetings support her and come out against Schupek, and why would Kevin Whitney and George Klotz support her and not Schupek with Klotz running on her ticket and Kevin Whitney choosing her over the entire board he brought into Posen government and calling bringing in the current members of Schupek's party a big mistake on his part. No Posen resident can justifiably deny the way Whitney and Klotz saved Posen from bankruptcy and county control, I think they know a thing or two about Juanita Goodwin's competence as a Trustee and as a Mayor. Face it, Schupek and the CPP are the incompetents, not Juanita...I question why you dislike her so much...makes me think you are either one of the CPP candidates or a family member of them...or someone who just doesnt or refuses to see the truth regarding Schupek and his CPP.

Why are you questioning whether Push for Progress is a family member of the party? Are you not on the ballot for Park Board and related to a member of the PTP canidates. There seems to be more information that you are revealing, that a normal resident of the town wouldn't know.

Actually, if you look at my posts on the other topic, I apologized to both Push for Progress and Common Sense for my identity assumptions and I also revealed my identity. I am on the Park Board ballot, and will be related to one of the trustee candidates as they are engaged to my mother as of now. I will also state yet again, that I am an independent candidate, not a member of PTP, I just have chosen to support the PTP, big difference there. Also, town records are on file, a history of Posen is available in the library, and I read the newspapers and online articles daily. As a major in History and Secondary Education, with a special focus in Political Science and Government, I make it my job to keep informed. I also attend the village meetings, attended the political fundraisers of both parties, and I know that public records are just that, public. I know what I know because I take time out of my week to be informed, both locally and nationally, as is my personal interest, and the duty that goes hand in hand with my future profession. I have done this for a long time, going back to my years as a Boy Scout, where being civic minded was a necessity to become an Eagle Scout, and as a 4-H member, which is largely about community awareness and involvement. On a second note, I supported PTP even before a future familial relationship was estabished, and before he was even asked to run as a trustee. Also, I supported PTP, and this trustee was a candidate of PTP, before he and my mother got engaged, so thats really besides the point, yet again I have already apologized for my assumptions in previous posts. I know nothing more about the town than any other resident who explored all their informational options would, and as all candidates for Park, School, and Library Board run as independents my support of PTP for Village Board has no correlation.

Personally, I am very concerned about this interchange project. While I am eager for it to finally happen, and I think it will be a great economic booster to the surrounding area, I am a little unnerved by what seems to be general uncertainty by the people from IDOT and the tollway. The project is under review by Gov. Quinn due to Blago, and the complete funding is not yet committed. They have no anticipation for overages, and an optimistic start date of 2011 without knowing exactly what they will definitely finish. They were very noncommittal at both the village meetings as well as the hearing at the Posen Community Center. I am just unsettled by the lack of actual answers, regardless of how early in the process it may be there should be more clarity.

As an observer to this discussion thread, I would have to say that all are entitled to their opinions and beliefs and that this could be a decent venue for discussion if personal attacks and petty name calling were eliminated.

I do note, however, that one of the people discussing has revealed himself (ChangeInPosen) and is not afraid/ashamed to do so. I feel the others have been less forthcoming. He is accurate in stating that all information revealed is coming from publicly accessible venues that any resident can research or inquire into...if they took the time.
