Kym Frazier and Rhonda Bryce have heard the sad story quite a few times before.
A Coonhound dog is bred for hunting somewhere in the south, where the breed is very popular. Yet for some reason the dog doesn't show the right instincts to be a good hunting dog. The owner then just lets the dog loose, or drops it off at a shelter.
Shelters throughout the south are overrun with abandoned dogs. And if a shelter can't place a dog, many times they are euthanized. Bryce said she knew of a shelter with 800 dogs at one time and had to have half put down.
