WTF

so we go into big lot looking to buy a couch and while sitting on one of the brown couches i felt a sting kinda like a mosquito. i scratched at it and there was a small bug on me and it ran under the cushion. at that moment my hubby had a few of them on him too which he flicked off. i lifted the cushion and there was this huge mess of bugs, shells and black things and it stunk. we didnt know what they were but we told an associate anyway who said she would look into it.

when we got home we found a few more on us and looked on the net to see what they were and their bed bugs!

it was the portsmouth store. we immidiatle threw everything we had on in the wash on hot....I have never been so itchy in all my life. I can't even BEGIN to imagine how horrible it must be to have these things in your bed with you every night. I really really hope we got them all that hitched a ride. I always thought that they could only be found in and on secondhand furniture, but on BRAND NEW in the store?! if they could hitch a ride home on us then I guess they could hitch a ride anywhere. I'm scared to even sit in a movie theater or restaurant now! from what we found online they leave little black ink looking dots where they have infested. word to the wide...before you bring ANYTHING into your home check for these dots in the folds and crevices.

I know someone who saw one crawling on a couch at rent a center in portsmouth. She was shocked the guy asked if she saw a roach, she told him there was a bedbug, he said he would turn it over and spray it later. Hard to tell whose house it is in now or how many people sat on it or kids. It's disgusting, they shouldn't be able to sell stuff like that.

Yep those things are expensive and costly to exterminate too. I know a couple living in a nice clean new house that invested around 2,000 cash dollars to have them removed and it takes a couple treatments to get rid if em. Besides them sobs will eat you up as well.

a "REAL " retailer? so you are saying that REAL retailers are immune to these things being carried there by a shopper then? lol...how ignorant! All it takes is for one to "hitch a ride" as the op posted. any member of the public can carry them anywhere....even your so called REAL retailers, all that person has to do is sit down on the "upscale" funiture or mattress shop's inventory and they have been transferred. that is unless these REAL retailers perform a strip search of every potential customer and then have them walk into a sterile room, put on fully inclosing hazmat suits that trap the bugs and keep them from falling off onto the products. name one place that does that.

they are everywhere, in every social class. get off your high horse.

they can spread just as roaches can. any just because it was empty doesnt mean they arent there. they can go a full 12 months without a meal. I would suggest looking around baseboards and window frames....check for the tell-tale black ink spots and shed exoskeleton casings around the edges of the rooms where the floor and walls meet. if you do get them...steamers work to treat rooms, bombs are useless, and sprinkle a product called diatomaceous earth around the walls and ALL furniture. thats how a lady on my street got rid of them. if it's an all out invasion....hire a pro and replace anything seriously infested. they dont just live in beds. they can inhabit any space they can fit in, electronics, bedding, furniture, wall, carpet, wood floors...you name it.

As horrible as it may sound, we stopped going over to her house when she told us cuz we didnt want them to spread to our house.

I am a bug phobe. I cant sleep if I see a darn stink bug in my house, I know bugs dont discriminate and anyone can get bed bugs, or even lice for that matter. I appreciate the heads up on the places selling more than furnature. Oh and bTW the billbobaggins guy posts on every forum stuff just to p someone off. Ignore them- absolute retard with nothing better to do. For the one who asked if neighbors can spread it... yes - I saw the exterminator show where these bugs hide not only in beds, but in elec outlets, and anywhere else with a crack. Maybe you can find them in bilbobaggins mouth due to all of the crack he has had shoved in and out of there

Hey dumbass, how often do you hear of high class furniture stores having "bug problems"? How about never! Big Lots is a store for low income/ Welfare Families, so it does not surprise me that this would happen. I'm more surprised at how the author of this thread was surprised that something like this could happen. Cheap Furniture + Low Income Families = Roaches R' Us. No High Horse required to figure that out.

Really? You sir are an ignorant, uninformed jackass. I have bought things from there and quite sure that I am not low income or on welfare. I look for deals when shopping. Alot of products carried by Oddlots/Biglots are usually discontinued items. Some are remanufactured that are as good as new. I admit there is plenty of junk to go along with it, as all stores have. Dont be so quick to
judge and label people.....you might be better off!

For ur information I am in Big lots almost everyday and alot of the customers are the wealthy and the rich and they make sure that if the items on clearance that he or she is getting that clearance price and if not they are angry more angrier then the low income and welfare families so get ur facts straight before writing on something u dont know nothing about... And it sure is funny that none of the furniture is getting returned and they sell a lot of furniture to the rich and the poor.

OMG....I have read it all now. You think because someone shops at BIG LOTS that they are low class....get freaking real!!! Anyone can get a bug problem and I do mean anyone. It doesn't matter how much money you have or where you live. Open your eyes or are you to stuck up to do that? I live in a very clean home and I see the occasional bug....it is called life sweetheart. You can carry them home in your grocery bags. As for bed bugs you can get them from hotels....even the top dollar hotels. You need to research the subject before you open your mouth it makes you look sooooo very stupid. Just saying.....
