It's certainly a lot easier if you know someone there. It used to be fairly difficult. At this time I'm not really sure. Do you know anyone there?

I believe it's difficult at the time being. The economy has put a damper on things for the past 2 years.

Having some sort of mechanical training is needed to work in the shops. If you are hired, you are sent to atlanta for 2-3 months for more training. Same thing if you are hired for brakeman or conductor. Go to Norfolk Southern website and they have a section to check for jobs. Always watch the sunday paper too. You MUST be DRUG FREE and you are hair folicle tested.

Doubtful suboxone will pass a test. They do a piss test and a hair folicle test. If ya haven't been clean for 3 months don't bother even going. Another thing I might add is that you have to pass a strenuous background check. The Norfolk Southern police have the same jurisdiction as the FBI an they are the ones who do the background check. So you better not have anything on your record other than traffic tickets or you won't make through the process anyway.

They are hiring. Just go to the web site and apply and you will get a email saying you are invited to a hiring session or a apply again later email. If you get invited its a all day process, they talk to you half the day and the take a test. If your lucky you will get to stay for a interview. You do have to go to Georgia for at least 3 weeks, not months, just depends on what job you are going for. Hope this helps.

They are also hiring 4 laborers and 1 electrician. If hired as a laborer you only have to go to Georgia for one week. If hired as an electrician or carmen your looking at 2 months or so in Georgia for training. You make less money as a laborer though. They're also hiring conductors too. Not sure about any of the other deparments.

Suboxone will not show up in routine 5,9, or 12 panel urine tests. It has to have a specific test to check for it. I don't know about hair tests. I don't think any employer can discriminate if someone is on suboxone legally as the user is protected under the Disability Act.

Its true as a loborer you make less money but it is a margin of less than 2 dollars per hour because of differebtial pay we get for being required to have a. CDL run exuip etc. Having said that as a fireman/oiler (laborer) you are severely unlikely to be laid off seing as how there are 5 of us and 3 of the other 4 are above 50 so if hired as a fireman/oiler (laborer) it is a lot more secure there is no apprenticeship you have a bid in job and biding rights after 1 month instead of 2 years. Where as a carman makes a little more on the hour but there is an apprenticeship and if there is a layoff carmen get the axe first . No one is untouchable but for less than a two dollar an hour difference job security goes a long way in my opinion and as a added bonous we pretty much get as much overtime as we want where carmen get paid strait time, just food for thought
