Probably cuz that's the ONLY way they ROLL. As long as they (GOB's)are our council that's the way its gonna be. An yea that's sad , but has been this way for decades.

I'm an educated professional living in town and have discussed this with enough people to know that it is indeed true - that a small group of dug-in businessmen has kept new business out for their own benefit. Real-estate is the main play, the strip malls that you see every mile.. follow the money.

Now if there are two sides to this story, let's draw it out! Daily Times? Care to air this out? No, of course not. The PDT is the poster-child b1tch to the few key business people in town. They RUN from anything that might upset their few benefactors.

So, where is this discussed? Its not; not really. Lee Scott makes some points on the subject but always flavored with his own personal vendettas. River Vices will tell you about it but likewise comes off as some over-the-top or angry fringe rhetoric.

Maybe we should be angry. Anyone?

Still waiting for evidence from someone supporting this theory. Maybe an educated professional living in town could actually lay out an example or two.

You are correct. I sat on the committee that discussed the Mall that wanted to move in on Chillicothe St. about 10 years or so ago. They were going to renovate everything to look like the town in the murals and add skywalks, but they wanted to buy all the buildings out right and have full ownership. They committee voted it down, as well as city clowncil. Why, because they are with that but the businessmen on it wanted a percentage of profit made every month or no go. They ran out about 40+ high end stores and restraints, as well as hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars because they wanted more, or some control. This led to the company moving to another town out of state that is now booming, motivated, and beautiful.

If you all remember back years ago we had a chance to Score the GM Saturn plant where the West High School is now. Portsmouth either refused to comply with their sewer or water needs so they went south.

They commissioners/City gov. at the time thought GM was going to Kiss their butt to build here and any reasonable person would know they would not. BUT it kept other people from making good money, and voting the powers that be out.

I will still blame the portsmouth voters, time and time again you vote in the same people to City gov. and county Comm. Then gripe about the decisions made. YOU PUT THESE PEOPLE IN!!! You deal with their decisions to keep YOU down.

What are you pishing for? The proof is before your eyes, now can they be this incompetent, unsophisticated, etc. on purpose, people can not be this stupid, ignorant and failures, etc.
District 1 water district gets $8 water for $3 (city people subsidize that), There are tax abatements out for 15 to 20 years of $39 million and counting (60% of homeowners subsidized that), much of the state and Federal funding goes to support these businesses that are on life supports instead of toward bringing in new business and industry, Motel Hotel tax does that too. What more do you want blind one phishing, how will you discount all that????
Let's see how you keep your 15 minutes of fame, going on this thread, blow hard or the facts ma'am, just the facts, Jack.
You will not have business and industry come in from the outside and not see this. And all the city's infrastructure are 40 to 50 years behind in keeping up with 20,000 people let alone the 60,000 we use to support, you are gaming us, you player.
