Get Frontline or whatever brand your local vet has in his office. Buy from a vet...I am pretty sure the stores like Tractor Supply carry a less powerful type of flea medicine. This is the type that has the little plastic vial that you break open and put the medication on the back of the neck. After your dog is treated, with whatever you use, keep in mind the fleas will be leaving the dog and looking for a new home.

I sprinkled 7-dust on my yard in April and my dogs have not had one flea on them yet. I just did it again a couple days ago. I did not treat them with the over priced Frontline or Advantix. Try it you won't be dissapointed.

Sevin is a brand name for the chemical "cabaryl" and is not considered safe for use indoors or on animals.

Frontline and K-9 Advantix kill the flea eggs. Killing only the living fleas is not enough. Yes, they are costly, but the misery that fleas cause to animals and their owners is awful.

Agreed. Keeping yards treated is the method we find most effective. In the house, borax or flea powder. After walks outside treated areas, use a flea comb. Some dogs have adverse reactions to frontline and similar products, and it just isn't worth the risk to use a chemical that doesnt even work very well. I wouldnt put it on my skin, why would I subject my dogs to it every month?

And yes, garlic will repel fleas :)

K-9 Advantix II, applied to the nape of the dog's neck once a month, works, but you have to buy the right size according to the weight of the dog. It's easier to remember if you apply it on the first of each month. This area of the country also is bad for heart worm which is fatal to dogs. It is caused by mosquitos. Every dog should be on heart worm preventative medicine year-round. K-9 Advantix II protects against fleas and ticks, both of which are in grass and weeds everywhere. It seems to work fine for my dogs. I don't have to put it on them in December through February. Because we had a mild winter, fleas and ticks seem to be even worse this year.
