I think that if you receive welfare funds then you should be subject to drug testing. We the american working class people are subject to drug testing every day in the work place so therefore because our taxes pay for you welfare bunch that beat the system to be able to do and sell drugs then sell your foodstamp cards for money I say drug test you, randomnally and this will lower our taxes. One last thing, the money can go to the people that really need assistence.

I think EVERYONE should be required to have a drug test when they get their license renewed. Oh, the horrors!!! Only "poor" people should have to go through such practices, right?

For the record, the majority who recieve assistance ARE the "working class." Think again, if you think this will lower taxes LOL It will cost MILLIONS more for the tests, plus, if a parent tests positive, their children and spouse will still qualify for any assistance they were previously getting. So, they might lose $20-30 a month, if that... but it will cost the government millions just to impliment the testing.

To karen...hmmm no most of working class are not the ones receiving assistance. Most that receive assistance are the people that get ssi checks. They go and say they can work but yet they can run up and down the aisles at walmart the first of every month buying everything but soap.

Why is SSD listed? That is not welfare. It is money people have earned as a result of the work they or their family has done. Get your facts straight!

If you get any kind of Government aid, you should be randomly drug tested. The town would save a ton of money if it stopped handing out drug money to people every month. It's pitiful.

This is a really good idea. I know people who sell their food stamps every month for drugs. People that work have to take random drug tests to keep their jobs and their taxes pay for these people to sit on their asses. The whole point of food stamps and welfare is to help people who are down on their luck and cannot gain employment, not to allow someone to live for free off the government forever. I have bought food stamps off of these people 50 cents for a dollar at least 20 times just because I can use $200 worth of food for $100. And I know they're going to go buy dope with it but at least their kids will be hungry and without food. If I didn't buy them someone else would. Department of family services is a joke unless you owe child support and can't find a job because there aren't any. Then you get to go to jail for being poor and get no benefits or help from them. How much fun, while your ex sits back with her welfare and food stamps and dope and has a party. At least with drug tests you could weed out these morons who don't deserve to have their kids in the first place because they're blowing marijuana smoke in their faces all night and snorting pills right in front of them. The system does not work or at very least needs a revision like this. I work and make nothing and know people that get paid more than me in benefits and blow it all. Not to worry dopers because this will never pass anyway. Some douchey chick with 15 kids will whine about the $3500 she gets from the 5 baby's dads, plus the $500 in food stamps, and the welfare check aren't enough for her to afford gas for her cadillac suv. Job and family services is a joke!

Yeah, my dad is a piece of shit like this. He gets SSI and has never had a job for his whole life. He was in the Army for 2 years (oh wow) what a winner who never saw combat. And he gets money every month and sits on his ass stoned all day and sells the Oxycontin and food stamps he gets to buy weed. I bet a drug test would motivate him to stop and use it for what it's intended for or the loser would just die from retardation.

'Looking into you' and 'lol' are at it once again, only this time, they've used caps...lol. Well, if you're going to reiterate your arguments, I'll do the same.
They should start testing college students for alcohol, who attend State universities, receive State grants, or Federally subsidized loans. That way they quit wasting the brains State money is paying to educate. Also, deny anyone who tests positive for drugs, alcohol, or tobacco from receiving any help at an emergency room (ever), unless they can pay upfront. Finally, everyone that rides public transportation, including school buses, should be physically searched before they can board, so they don't use our State buses as a way to transport dope.
You see, if you can manage to enforce this on *all forms of public assistance, then I'm all for it...but you can't. So, if it's only the poor who you're aiming to discriminate against, then I'll be the first to sue on their behalf.
Oh and dude, you call your dad a piece of shit? really? I mean it's your family, but darn, I'd be curious to hear about *your great accomplishments. Care to enlighten me? Nobody thinks their own shit stinks, especially the naive.
If this area lost it's federal grants and state aid, it'd collapse into bankruptcy overnight. So, although I understand your concern, think about what's best for Portsmouth.

NO. IF you start kicking people who have a drug problem off of government assistance. Most would not try to get a job. They would just steal and commit other crimes to pay for their habit. I would rather give them money than have them steal it from other people.

All the money big business saves hiring illegals should be enough to compensate having to pay a little for the people put out of work by that practice, to survive. If they have a little extra, who cares what they spend it on?
Also, I'm so sick of hearing people say 'I'm paying for these lazy bastards ect...). Yeah, I doubt it. It's big business that shoulders most of the tax burden, while your average worker is lucky to pay in enough for all his own services that he'll use within his lifetime.
I'm not saying that all our woes are to be blamed on big business, or on government, or on the poor. I think there are people from all walks of life that are responsible for getting us into the mess we're in. Let's face it, there's just a bunch of shitty people out there. However more rules, regulations, and guidelines, is not the answer.
Times are changing rapidly, and it's easy to get left behind. I would think it a great comfort to know that if I should fall ill, and I've worked enough to draw SSD, that I'd be OK. Again, since this is my money, that I paid in, who's business is it what I choose to do with it. All of us are just one pay check away from being in the poor house ourselves. All it would take is a lay off, an illness, or something like that, for our worlds to come crashing in on us.
Finally, why do people assume that everyone is employable, and that there are enough jobs out there for everyone. This hasn't been my observation, but to each his own.

Let's face it, this area is the hottest spot for drug abuse in the country. Take away the assistance and there will be more burglaries than you can shake a stick at. So, how about giving the pill heads what they want. Pill heads have to take more and more until they overdose, so lets let them take care of themselves. In a few years we can have our community back again. As for testing people on financial aid. How about discontinueing financial aid as it exists today and make it more of a loan forgiveness program that is available to everyone. If everyone in the country could get a loan that would be forgiven upon graduating, more people would be able to go to college and especially seek advanced degrees. The way it works now children of the not so bright get a free ride. Most of them drop out or can't cut it after tax payers have spent thousands trying to educate them. While the children of the real middle class end up so far in debt by the time they graduate, that after making their student loan payment they have as much left as if they worked at McDonalds. The whole government support system is broken, especially financial aid. Help needs to be redistributed to the people who really help themselves.

They tried that and it just passed on to generation to generation. There HAS TO BE A LINE DRAWN. Come on a addict who can't wake up and perform as a responsible adult deservese to sleep al day wheel and deal all night and gets everything handed to them?

. Seriously?? Job and family services is a joke except when you owe child support and go to jail?? HA!! I do not get anything from jfs and my ex husband owes 8 years of back support so you think he's went to jail once over it? H*ll no they suspended his Ls. Wow that's going to make him pay. Most of the men who don't pay support is because they don't want to work to pay back and current support. I know first hand he tells everyone that. Oh yeah and I do not drink or do any drugs what so ever. So tell me is it everyone that is like this? Guess you don't know as much as you think. Scioto county child support is a joke and hardly send anyone to jail for non payment get your facts straight.

Yeah, I think taking the license of someone who hasn't been paying in, is ridiculous. How will he work now as most places require you to have a license?
I believe it's the duty of a society to take care of its women with children and the elderly. It should be a woman's right to receive aid while raising her children, because it's just as much of a job as anything else. You think I'm crazy, but that's really something that the woman's rights movement is considering for their third wave.
Back in the day, people used to care for their own children and aging parents, instead of putting the burden on the State. Nowadays, the average marriage just lasts five years. What is a woman with no work experience and no husband to support her going to do? She can't even afford to pay anyone to watch her kids while she looks for a job, let alone the impossibility of finding any work around here.
You guys need to leave these poor women alone, and yeah, some of them do drugs. Hell, half the county does. You should find a better group to pick on. I mean really, it's not like they go out and spend their whole welfare check on drugs, because the fact is, they can barely survive on what they get. After paying your rent and utilities, there is very little if anything left. You try living on $550 a month!
Everybody knows an addict can be very ingenious when it comes to finding ways to feed their habit, but harassing or cutting off support to a women with children is just cold. There are other better ways to deal with the ramped drug problem, like securing our borders!
Mexico is our #1 problem when it comes to drug trafficking. And while China fought two opium wars against Briton, the US won't even threaten an attack. Maybe that's because the US is hoping for a North American Union, or because fighting the drug war has just become too profitable for our government to let it end. Personally, I think the government intentionally ignores or mishandles things, and then when a crises occurs, they turn to the American people and ask for a blank check.
We need to defend our own borders, end our involvement in foreign wars, and demand more transparency of government spending. Instead of a fence to protect us, we should be using land mines. I wonder how many would attempt a crossing then?
After eight long years, Afghanistan was bleeding Russia dry, so they ended their campaign there. However, it was too late, as they had already begun their downward spiral into economic depression, which after the cold war ended with the dissolution of the USSR. Let's not make the same mistake.
Let's not allow the rich and powerful to turn us against each other. We may have our sins, but they pale in comparison with some of things the elite do. Make no mistake about it, they are the real enemy.
