Hey folks!

By popular demand, we have rolled out a new feature for our registered users! Now, if you are a registered user you can HIDE or CUSTOMIZE YOUR LOCATION!

If you aren't registered, but want to hide your location, just sign up for a free Topix profile and you'll be able to use this feature.

If you are registered, go to your profile, and you'll see "Hide my location" in the left-hand column under your avatar photo. You can click "hide my location" to hide your location entirely-this will prevent any location whatsoever from being displayed on your profile. Or, if you'd like to customize your location to display, go to your Profile Q&A in the right-hand column and set your location in the "Hometown" field.

If you set a location in the Hometown field, this will be the only location that will be displayed - unless you choose to hide your location altogether.

We hope you all enjoy this new feature!

That really makes no sense, especially considering registered users are the only easily identifiable ones and can be followed both on the site and through Google.

Makes no sense to me either. Every one should have to register.

I like it too. My location changes all the time from my ISP. Now I can stay identifiably local. Thanx.

I can't see my ISP location. Is it still Norcross Georgia or has it gone back to United States? With an iPhone, you can never tell where I may be.

Very nice..now more losers than ever are secure in knowing that they can cause more trouble, stir sh*t, hurt and damage others witout fear of discovery. THis new revelation and the $20 bucks that they charge to MAYBE remove a destructive, damaging post is proof that they don't care what is said and who is hurt.
the point is

What is the point anyway. My location shown on here is not where I am located anyway. Besides why does it matter if someone thinks they know what town you live in?

I agree, yet disagree. REGISTERED users will post repeatedly and it isn't hard to figure out if they're a local or not. These anonymous posters now only THINK they are more "invisible".. Personally, I don't mind at all that my location is listed correctly. I'm here, I'm posting from here and I don't mind if people know where I am from.

On a side note, MANY of the abusive threads I've personally reported have been removed, and I've not paid a single penny. Other users who have been doing the same can agree. There are still a few that are taking longer to remove than suits me, but they are coming down..

I don't fully understand the reasoning behind hiding your location, unless Topix thinks that more people will register if they can hide their location. Looks like another way to open up more trouble, with slander, name calling and bashing of innocent people.
