I went to my pain doc and he wanted to do a drug screen using this thing called an Ameritox drug screen. They gave me info on it but it looks crazy on what it will pick up..

If you're not abusing, what's the problem?

The whole purpose is to ensure that patients are following the prescribed regimen.

It helps the doctor see if your taking the pain medication as proscribed or abusing it! I think its a very good idea

Pretty common. Been around for years.

It will become even more common as prescription drug abuse escalates even higher. As more doctors are raided and arrested for selling and/or over-prescribing, it will become even more common. The doctors who prescribe with good intent and want to keep their license will insist upon it and encourage other doctors to to do it, too.

If you're going to take pain meds, resign yourself to the fact that your use will be monitored and quantified, as it should be.

If you're over-using or abusing, I'd stop now. Or your source might cut you off.

That's the whole purpose of Ameritox.

It also stops people from going to the DR just to get pills to sell. They will be able to tell if you've been taking them.

Smart idea.

I just found it very interesting and detailed compared to the normal drug screens that says is it there or not there.

I totally agree and do not dispute taking it. I think it also protects me as a patient and gives validity to the fact that I take the medication just as prescribed but I am still in pain. I'm not just wanting more pills. My pain is not controlled. Either switch me to something different or refer me to someone that can help.

That has nothing to do with Ameritox.

The point of Ameritox is not to quantify your pain, but to verify that you're following your prescribed regimen. Pain is abstract and cannot be quantified.

But the test will show that I am taking just a prescribed... And I am still reporting being in pain....

I feel for you and very much agree and understand your problem. I have severe chronic pain and my pain isn't being controlled either!!

I am all for making sure someone is properly taking thier prescribed meds and all for making sure my liver is ok . Obviously there are many people ausing prescription meds whether thier seling them or over medicating , however I do not agree with being tested every three months and each time recieving bill amounting any where from $400.00 to $1400.00 when I only take two dif medications. It's been proven that Ameritox will like anyother company go to great lengths to screw the ave Joe if they can. I'm sorry but this ave Joe cannot afford these bills yet no matter how hard I've tried I'm like many others in my position actually cannot lead a very satisfying or productive life w/out my meds.Other than the outlandish amnt of tests and cost I'm really tired of being questioned about weed each tme I'm tested for gods sakes If I were to smoke I would be the first to tell my Dr.out of fear of any adverse or harmful reaction to any meds he may prescribe .

My fiancé takes 1 prescription (and no it isn't Oxy!) for pain resulting from multiple surgeries following a MVA. He also has been tested by this physician and has been clean each time...and each time we receive a bill for almost $500. I understand the doctor must protect herself and her business, I just wish there was a more cost effective method.

I received a bill too and when I called the billing department the reduced my bill to $45 for one and $30 for the other. And they do not have a collections department.

If these Physicians are prescribing the appropriate
Dosage and only refilling at the allowed times I don't see how there is room for abuse!
