What group home are you referring to?
They are people

Why should it matter anyways if there is a group home going there.! They are people And they do have feelings. It's not like they are ex convicts they have disabilities!!!! They need support so let's be grown ups and move on.

DD people make the best neighbors. If people would educate themselves, instead of belittling them, they would see things differently. These people were born with disabilities, yet make the best of their lives. They are the most loving, caring, motivated and inspiring individuals. I cannot believe the people in that "area" feel they are so much better than those with DD. What a shame!

What people in this area don't realize, these group homes are all over the area! These residents are amazing people!

you guys don't understand, this subdivision has legal stipulations against this kind of facility in their deeds

It's a home, not a facility. There are homes like these all through out the area. They are well kept and held to higher standards. I know I wouldn't not mind at all if I lived next door to a home like these. They are wonderful people that live in these houses and deserve the rights and privileges to live in a beautiful, safe area.

What, specifically, are those stipulations? To my knowledge, there have been no complaints in any other areas of the city about group homes. It just confirms that the neighbors who are complaining in the Willow Way area are snobs and think they are better than the rest, just like we knew to begin with.

Willow way is a subdivision of single family dwellings, only. There are already DD people living in the area, but they live with their FAMILY, not in a group home setting. The people of that subdivision have a lawyer, and this will not be happening. It's nothing against the DD people. You couldn't put in an apartment complex or a pizza place either. Call them snobs If you like, but they have a lot of money invested in their homes, and actually take care of their property, unlike other parts of the city.

A group home is a single family. I'd much rather have the individuals who make up a group home as my neighbor rather than a snob. I, too, have a lot of money invested in my house and it's probably worth more than most or all on Willow Way. That's what's wrong with this world, too many people looking out for themselves and the heck with everyone else.
sorry but i disagree

i'm sure they are fine people, but i wouldn't want to live next to one for a number of reasons. why don't we leave the group homes in areas that are zoned for that type of thing, otherwise what's next? letting the counseling center put "recovering" addicts in our neighborhoods? no thank you!

Sounds like a great plan. We will just have them put the group home next to YOUR house. And by the way, it's a business, NOT a single family.

There are many homes in this area that house people with disabilities. You wouldn't know though, all the houses look like normal dwellings, well maintained. 24 hour staff at these homes maintain, care and make sure the people living in the house are safe and loved. You comparing them to recovering drug addicts is ridiculous, they aren't even in the same category.

They are the highest paid tax bracket because of what is on the subdivision and deeds! If it were just about not wanting to live by the individuals, they need shouldn't make them pay the most in property tax and last i checked SRS is a business and if there is a staff at this home them it's a business! It's not about stuck up or money, its about what is strictly stated on the deed

I cannot believe that people in this day an age could be so uneducated, especially since you live on Willow Way. Does that make you so special? The lady who is running her mouth to everyone says she wouldn't have a problem if it was a family with 3 children with down syndrome. I don't believe that for one second. I think she would probably be the first to try and run them down too. Willow Way is a nice road, but apparently not very nice people. And remember...you still live in Portsmouth.

Anothed reason why people leave Portsmouth and move to zoned sub-divisions in the county. Also to keep their children out of the Portsmouth schools.
Shame on you

Shame on the people of Willow Way who are involved in this dispute!! I have searched on line for property values of the homes on Willow Way and then in my neighborhood, not far from Willow Way, my neighborhood property value is much higher than those on Willow Way, and I would not have an issue with having these folks as my neighbor. What the hell are you afraid of?? It's not like there will be a sign in the yard. Portsmouth is full of people who think they are better than others or believe they deserve special privileges. Let me tell you, YOU ARE NOT!!! GET OVER YOURSELF!!!!

Amen!! This is an interesting town. When the wife and I moved here, we thought what a nice town, neighbors were so kind. Well after about three or four months we found people are fake, talk about their neighbors and everyone else.. And for some reason if they have a little money they believe they are some how privileged, better than those less fortunate than themselves. My wife and I both came from predominately white collar upper middle class areas. People of Portsmouth, as Shame on you said. "Get over yourselves"
