What's happening at Berean Baptist Church? People that have attended there for 30 plus years are leaving. So far 1 deacon and 3 trustees have left along with a host of members.

Does it have something to do with the new pastor? I hear he's acting like God and telling people to leave, it's now his church.

I use to attend there. Lots of nice peple at one time. Carroll and Mann were the preachers then. Both great men.

I didn't know they had a new pastor. I stopped going there about 18 years ago. I was a poor kid and there were a lot of people who were really not nice to me because I wasn't "good enough" in their eyes. There were adults as well as other kids. With that said, there was a couple of really great Sunday School teachers and other adults involved with the AWANA program that NEVER looked down on me. I still have contact with a couple of them. They are such wonderful women.

LongAgo,

I am sorry that you were looked down on by people in any Church. It is so wrong for anyone to do it especially people who claim to be Christlike. Funny think is, most all Churches would not even give Jesus the time of day if he walked into their chruch. He was a radical dude with radical claims, long hair sandals, hanging around the whore, poor, and others who needed the help the most. Now that my friends is reality and when you begin to grasp that (note I said begin as we will never fully comprehend) that is when you begin to truly see what Jesus Chrsit was doing here on Earth. Remember this: we are entertaining Angels unaware.

Sounds like another pastor that likes to play God. Some pastors get so caught up in dress, music, etc that they start making their own rules and want nothing but total control of peoples lives. Maybe this is what is going on at Berea. I know the pastor from Calvary Baptist is from Berea and is this way. A control freak know it all that thinks he is better than everyone else. These type of pastors actually do more harm than good but are too arrogant and closed minded to realize it

Thank you, Goofy. You are probably right.

Slim, I am familiar with who you are referring to. He is around my age, and he was one of the people that wasn't very nice. I can't possibly comment on how he is now. I have not seen him since I left. There are a couple of guys from there who are pastors now. I can only hope they grew up and changed.

I completely changed denominations after leaving there, and have never set foot in a Baptist church again because of my experiences at that church.

Long ago. I hope the actions of a few don't discourage you from church because trust me there are churches and pastors who aren't as judgemental and arrogant. I have found a church that preaches the truth without the arrogance and I am holier than u attitude. Trust me it was a true blessing to find my church. Great pastor and congregation. RealiZe that God made us all unique and we don't have to be cookie cutter Christians. Hope to see u back in church.

It is the Pastor who is causing the problems.. The loving spirit that was once there is gone and if the present pastor stays I'm afaraid it will damage the church forever its a shmae the church has a wonderful history.

This is so sad to see this about what used to be a wonderful church. I can remember going with my parents as a child for revivals there. Wonderfully nice people.

I know that several people have left and have moved onto a couple of churches in the Burg. I really hope that God will do a healing work in that church. Very sad.

Today I visited another church because I'm unhappy at Berean to my suprise I counted about 16 families where I was at that use to attend Berean faithfully.. Berean is falling apart at the seams.. someone there better do something soon....Sad Sad to see the church that once was the leader in the area drop to this level.

If your wanting to stay in the Wheelersburg area you won't fine a more compassionate church than Sandhill Christian Baptist.

Do you have to pay this guy to treat you this way? You do know that preachers are not supposed to receive any pay per the Bible don't you?

I'm not sure I agree with you on this. How is a Pastor supposed to support he and his family without pay? These men are pastoring full time with no help of an outside job. Where in the Bible does it state this? They have to live somehow!
