I would call your Community Action and ask for options. Hell, ask your welfare caseworker.

I would like to know what is going on with the Portsmouth Goodwill. Poor people cannot afford to shop there. I needed clothes for my kids for winter, and can't afford Walmart. My husband and I stopped in to look for some things when we got off work, and we were amazed at the prices. We were better off to go Kmart! I needed a purse, and I couldn't afford to buy one there. I would like to know who is in charge of the store and why they price so high. I thought it was to help poor people, not to rip them off! Is there any place in town that is affordable on children's clothing?
What are your childrens ages and sex, maybe I can help you.

Maybe you should apply for some public assistance if you are having difficulty purchasing clothes for your children, or is it that you just do not know how to budget what you have?

I know how to budget, and I do not want to apply for anything. We believe in working hard and earning what we have. Rent raised, and it's hard to tell what the gas bills will be like this winter, and Christmas is right around the corner, so we do not want to blow a bunch of money on new clothes right now. I will be buying them a few new things for Christmas, but I just can't go out and buy all new things right now. They've outgrown everything. Boys do not want to wear their sister's hand me downs, so that's not an option either.

Thank you. I will check it out. I do not mind to pay for their things. That wasn't what I was saying at all. I don't know why "golden ticket" assumed I was. I do not want handouts. I just think Goodwill is taking advantage of poor people.

Goodwill is a nonprofit business who runs on grant dollars and proceeds generated from clothing, etc. They charge a price to make some profit to invest back into their projects for those in need.

The Goodwill stores in other places aren't as high as the one in Portsmouth. The one is Ashland and the one in Maysville are great and not near as high prices as this one. The church in New Boston is St. Monica. You might try Consumers Helping consumers on 5th Street a little past CVS on Chillicothe St. or the Salvation Army store on 9th Street near Findlay. Best of luck.

And only on Topix here does a thread bitching about high prices at Goodwill turn into a muck raking, gossiping soap opera about who's fckn' who around here. LMAO

Most Goodwills employ welfare workers to work off their food stamps. It is free labor.

Anyone you see at Goodwill without name tags is a welfare to work or are doing community service. The actual employees all have name tags. Not everyone that works there is on welfare or community service.

Curious cat does the truth hurt cause it is What is if you don't believe call goodwill better yet call the sheriff's department and see if there wasn't police report made out also drive by goodwill they are hiring Crick drivers one quit and got a better job two were left and they both chase after managers cause one drivers wives is on here asking questions about it and the other one wouldn't leave the manager kay Aline so she resigned then he got fired for stealing metal and junking and pocketing the money that's the truth curious cat
