Domestic violence is a joke. You can be charged with it by just yelling at someone. No more than a traffic ticket these days.
I hear it all the time. The wife will start a big fight with the guy, call the cops, have him arrested for DV, then later she's out in the bars with her boy friend. She knows he's in jail and won't catch her. LOL
Usually, it's more heavy on Friday night.
Then she has the whole weekend, goes in Monday morning and drops the charges after shes partied all weekend while he was in jail.
That's why when I see someone that's been arrested for DV I don't give it a second thought.
Now sometimes I know it is really DV if someone gets battered. But that doesn't happen very often these days.
its true. my daughter got mad at her dad and slammed the door to her room, jamming the lock in the process. he went out on the front porch and was yelling at her to open her window so he could get in there and fix it. one of our great neighbors called the police on him. when the officer got there we all said there had been no fighting (including my daughter). we all tried to explain, but they took him to jail overnight anyway. all this over her throwing a temper tantrum and slamming a door. you can't say "boo" to someone anymore without charges being filed.

i know, people do hurt their spouses, but a domestic violence charge isn't always what its cracked up to be.

Yeah I've read the records on the courts website. But it says nothing about what actually happened and who all was involved.

DV is no joke, my friend. When I left my boyfriend behind, I did it with 4 stitches above my left eye, a black eye, bruises on my throat where he'd strangled me, broken ribs and bruised internal organs. Could you have not said something like "Sometimes the claims of DV are false?" or something like that? A little sensitivity here wouldn't hurt, ya know? He didn't have a mark on him and I never hurt him except to get him off me. He was drunk and he got mean. I never saw it coming. Joke is not the appropriate word to use in connection with domestic violence. I'm not being nasty to you. I know what you mean when you say what you said but it's hurtful, okay?

I also know women that have actually been abused.
However, today there are as many DV cases in the court system as there are traffic tickets. Then they go to court the next court date and drop the charges because they aren't angry anymore. They kiss and make up, and life goes on. I have seen it time after time again. So what would your solution be for that?
