most of the carts can be identified as belonging to certain stores...if you're gonna go through the trouble of getting it to scrap, why not do the right thing and drop it off where it belongs...if it's just all about the money then you're sounding a little desperate and in need of a "fix"....very sad.

I actually do not do drugs. You think I'm going to go to the store and steal shopping carts? Stop assuming and insinuating. Funny everyone automatically thinks that I'm on drugs. Lol! I constantly see these sitting around town on residential streets. I figured if they are worth something why not make a few extra bucks and clean up the eyesore.

Regardless if they are sitting in residential areas, it is still considered theft. Since it appears you receive a lovely disability check, you can still work so many hours a week without it affecting your government check. How about be half-way legitimate about it?

Livingston's doesn't take shopping carts. Drive by Wendy's and you'll see the pile of shopping carts they've got sitting by the aluminum can entrance. If you want to take the time to cut them down in to flat wire sheets, remove the wheels, and crush the frame, they might take them then. You've got to ask yourself if $2 worth of scrap is worth cutting down and crushing a shopping cart.

They put them out there so they can be picked up by whatever store lost them.

The shopping carts Walmart has cost almost $180 each, when purchased.

To Boo, you're so jealous of people's disability checks that it clearly shows through. If you are needy there are government agencies and programs to help you, and also food banks and or food pantries, food cards e.t.c. (Lovely Disability Checks) rofl, give me a break Mr. Boo

honestly, i wasn't assuming you were going to go to the store and steal one to turn in, i did figure it was from seeing the dozens of them sitting on the side of the road...my original point still stands though since you were contemplating doing something illegal by taking the carts to the scrap heap instead of the store they belonged to, the logical assumption is that you don't mind doing something illegal and therefore, the comment about drugs was appropriate.

Who says I knew this was illegal? How do you know I if I mind doing something illegal? Why do you think I asked, to inform myself. You seem a bit pompous, get over yourself. Seeing as how they are only worth a few bucks, and it is illegal I won't be pursuing this any further.

If you'd like to take the carts back to the store in which it came, feel free. You're a better citizen then me obviously. Lol. And no, I get no form of government aid at all unlike %80 percent of Portsmouth.

People take carts off our lots all the time. They have a guy they pay to go round town and pick them up (not very much to my understanding either, just pocket change pretty much.) but obviously he can't get them all. and there are people who do take them off the lot and try to scrap them.
and then when our carts go missing, and we have to get more...and I think they said a single cart costs the company like $100 dollars or something like that.
then customers want to know why we don't have any carts for em to use.
if people would stop taking them off the lot and leave em strung out over town, and stop trying to junk em' then we would have them. and like I said yeah there is one guy that collects them for krogers but he is only one guy and though i see him bring them back all hours of the day and night...he is one person and can only keep up with so much of them.
if you dont want these "eyesore" carts cluttering up your city then please keep them on the stores premises where they belong.

well, i'm glad you informed yourself...i'm not necessarily pompous...my logic was, if you were considering going through the trouble hauling one and being on the road anyway to scrap it, why not go the other way and drop it off where it belongs...i used to pick them up all the time when i worked at a retail store and take them back, but that was bec i worked there and knew how much they cost to replace (and i did it off the clock)...since i don't work there anymore, i'm not going through the trouble of cleaning up after someone else's mess...if they're honest peolpe and thought it was important enough to take one off the lot, then they should be honest enough to take it back, but honest people are not the ones taking the carts...i won't waste the time taking them back, just to have that same person bring another one to the same location...no sense in enabling idiots...

also, i never assume someone is on government assistance of some kind just bec they have a drug addiction or are a lazy bum...even though it appears that the drug problem is primarily centered around those on some kind of assistance, it is not limited to it.

no harm, no foul...just commenting on a thread.

$100 wouldn't buy you one of these carts. Whoever said that doesn't know what he's saying. Several years ago they were around $150 so you know they are more than that now, not less.
