My question is about the Wheelersburg pain clinic in the little shopping mall by Subway. I'm not looking to be bashed, I would just really like to get some informative answers. I've been reading alot of the posts and comments about the various pain clinics in Portsmouth, and I've seen alot of bashing, and I seriously do not want that.

About 10 years ago I was in a horrible car accident where I almost died. I had alot of broken bones, and I went through ALOT of therapy just to be able to walk again. Over the years I have been on pain medicine off and on for severe pain but mostly I just learned to deal w/ my pain and try to live my life as normal as possible. Last April the pain starting increasing to a point where I could not bear it, so my family doctor w/ whom I've been seeing for 10 years started me on pain meds. I have Fibromyalgia, and @ the time we knew of 2 herniated disks and severe arthritis all through my spine and pelvis. I went through 2 months of therapy but the pain level did not improve. My family doctor continued to give me pain meds just so I could get out of bed in the morning. We finally did an MRI a couple of weeks ago, and it turns out that I have quite a bit more things wrong w/ my back than we thought. My last MRI had been in 2006. My doctor wants to send me to a surgeon but I am not having back surgery. Everyone that I know who has had back surgery has ended up in more pain than they had before surgery, and I have children and a very busy life, I just could not be down for that long only to end up in more pain.

My doctor is very against pain clinics, and he will not give me anything stronger than what he is giving me now, and on a level of one to ten my pain level w/ the pain meds he has me on is still a 6 or 7. I have experienced a GREAT deal of pain in my life, and I am sooo tired of hurting. So I have decided to go to a pain clinic.

I made an appt.@ the pain clinic by Subway in Wheelersburg for next week, but I know virtually nothing about this clinic. I am looking to get some informative answers about this clinic.

I understand that many of you on topix are VERY against pain clinics. I also understand that many people in Scioto County abuse the drugs that they get from the clinics. I am not one of those people, and I would like my questions to be treated respectfully because I am someone who is truely in pain and in need of services from a caring doctor who understands that some people are unable to live their lives in severe pain.

I just want to know if anyone knows anything about this clinic and the doctor on staff there. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It's sad that u have nothing better to do than get on here and judge people. U do not know me so do not judge me or label me. People who have no empathy for others disgust me. Maybe one day you'll be in severe pain and need help but u have a doctor who is too scared to help u because of all of the people like u who judge others and put everyone in the same group as the druggies. Then you'll know what it's like, and I'm sure u won't be so quick to judge...

Go back to therapy. Use it or lose it. Aqua therapy is wonderful for fibromyalgia. I think you will regret going to the pain clinic because you said you just wanted a doctor that cares. also, will they take your insurance?

If you don't trust your own doctor and what he's prescribing you, why don't you seek advice from another doctor instead of running to a pain clinic?

I've done aqua therapy several times over the years, the last time I was in therapy several months ago I was doing both aqua therapy and physical therapy, and it did help in the past but this last time I was in therapy my pain did not improve. I stated that in my first post. I know that my family doctor cares a great deal for me, and he knows that I do not abuse my medicine, that I am taking it for severe pain. He is just very conservative, and he is not comfortable w/ going higher as most of the doctors in Scioto County aren't because of all of the drug abusers and all of the judgemental people in this area. That is why I have not gone to another doctor.

I said when I started this thread that I was not looking to be judged. Understand that every person's tolerance to pain is different. I have been in pain for years and I mostly just dealt w/ it but I can't anymore. I just want to be pain free and be able to go back to living my life. I truely do not think most of you know what it feels like to be in severe pain daily. Maybe then you would understand.

I stated that I was looking for informative information about this clinic. I also said that I wasn't looking to be judged, and that is exactly what ur doing by saying that I am "running to a pain clinic". I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the responses that I'm getting, I've seen so much judgement and hatred and lack of empathy and understanding for people who are in TRUE pain on the other clinic posts that it was probably a huge mistake for me to even post this thread.

Sorry, I forget to respond to ur last question. No, they do not take insurance. I don't think that there are any pain clinics that do in this area.

In a city this size with as many prescription pill addicts as we have, you are probably right. I just think that if you are in the TRUE pain you say you are, your doctor would see it and prescribe medication accordingly. If he doesn't think you need it, then you may want to think about that or try to locate another physician, one who doesn't work at a pain clinic, for a second opinion.

It's not that he doesn't think that I need it, he wants me to see a surgeon and have back surgery. I'm not sure if you realize that most of the doctors in this area will only go to a certain point when it comes to pain medicine. I am just very tired of being in pain and depending on my family to help me w/ my children and the tasks of everyday life. I am not willing to have back surgery which is my doctor's recommendation. I am already depending on my family to help me as it is, and if I had back surgery, I would be absolutely down for a long time, and I'm also scared that I would have the surgery and end up in more pain than before.

I understand to a point why so many people are against the pain clinics but @ the same time there are people who have no other choice but to be on pain meds in order to have any chance of having any quality of life. I don't take the medicine to get high, I take it to get pain relief. When u have been on medicine for a long period of time, your body gets a tolerance to the drug, and the dose needs adjusted. My doctor is no longer willing to adjust the meds, and he wants me to just have surgery. That is not an option for me. This is my choice to go to the pain clinic. Many of u do not agree, and that is okay, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

If your doctor will no longer increase your pain medication because he believes you need surgery, then you DO have a choice. Get the surgery. Yes, you may be down for awhile, but at least that gives you the opportunity to get better, rather than remain on pain medication for the rest of your life. Have you even met with the surgeon to discuss the procedure or the consequences of the surgery? Have you discussed the consequences of not having the surgery and remaining on pain meds the rest of your life?

To me, it just appears that you would rather choose the easy route rather than face the surgery and just do it. Saying that you don't have a choice is just an excuse because you do have a choice. It's just one you don't want to make.

By the way, you're talking to someone who has been clean and sober for 9 years, so it's not like I don't know what I'm talking about.

You should just watch out for the pain medication like Oxy and Percocet. If you start, you need more, more, MORE, and then some. You try to stop, and you are in miserable pain. Your pain is worse than when you started. Ask anyone who has been through this tolerance and addiction- I would just hate to see you become an addict in addition to you current health problems. Try anything beside opiates. The Pain Clinics will get you to the point of miserable addiction, and on purpose. They will take your money, soul, and then your life. If you were already terminal, that would be different.

Are any of you bashers doctors? Hell no!
So shut up and quit telling people that all Pain Clinics are drug pushers and that people will turn into a druggie!

To "taking care of business", I would not step foot in that clinic you mentioned! It is one of the main reasons that the morons on here run their mouths. Its because of clinics like that one the rest are suffering the same discrimination.
There are only two in this town that actually do full examinations, full medical backgrounds and actually provide true pain management with increasing and decreasing levels of medications so you are most likely not to get addicted. Dr. Temponaras(wheelersburg), and Ohio Pain Relief (Rosemount). You also will not stand in long lines of druggies and you will not be setting around dopers asking to buy your medications. Its the only two places that pharmacies still fill for. Of course not around here because, of the whole Discrimination problem.

At this point in time, no I do not have a choice...you do not know everything about me, nor have I told u everything about me. There are many reasons why surgery is not an option for me,@ least not now, and maybe not for a long time if I ever chose to do so. Believe me when I say that I am not trying to take the easy way out. You need to consider the fact that everyone's situation and circumstances are different. Since this is such a public site, and I only posted this thread to get informative information, and instead I feel like I am defending myself to people who know nothing about me, I will not reveal my current situations or circumstances that would HIGHLY effect any decision to have back surgery if I ever chose to do so. I don't want my life picked apart by strangers who are very quick to judge.

I do not have a drug problem. I'm sorry for the people who do now or have in the past, or have a family member or close friend who has a drug problem that effects them. I have seen drugs ruin people's lives. I would not have made this decision to go if I hadn't thought it out carefully, and I feel that this is my only option right now. Some may not think so, but again you do not know my current situation or circumstances so please do not judge me.
There have been several comments from people so far, yet I have not gotten any information about the clinic. I don't think that I'm going to get any real information about this clinic on this site, and I think that's sad. I'm sure there are people out there who r in real pain and have been to this clinic but they're probably afraid to post anything for fear of getting bashed. I thought that this was America and people had rights. This really is ridiculous.

Dr. Temponaras is not accepting new patients, and the Rosemount clinic requires a doctor referral. My doctor is totally against pain clinics so he will not write me a referral.

Referrals are a must for Chronic Pain Treatment.
The Rosemount office also treats non chronic conditions without Class II narcotics. Of course they will send you to a specialist for proper examinations and testing. Take a copy of your medical records in and request that they have the physician look at them. Remember there are laws that must be obeyed and any Pain Center that takes you right in without proper examination is a Pill Mill! Unless a Pill Mill is what you are looking for then those are the only two around here that could help you.

if you doctor is against it for you it puts up red flags to me! You are a pill head wanting a quick fix. I don't care what you say. Lyrica is the only drung that will help you condition and any doctor will prescriibe that. Only down side to it no buzzz. Thats why u want a pain clinic.Just move far away from here or better yet go hand out at the Burg pain clinics and get busted I can't wait!
