The town is getting pretty much what they have had for years. Don't want it don't pay, but then you have absolutely nothing. There is NO obligation to respond outside of the village. Insurance rates for homeowners are partially determined on fire coverage by fire depts. no coverage HUGE rate increases if any t at all. Also FFD has 6 full time members and 2 part timers, supplemented by volunteers from 3 or 4 volunteer companies. That is a lot of coverage with minimal manpower. My hats off to them, and no I am not a fireman or volunteer and have never been nor will I ever be. Just a taxpayer.

You are a crazy one. They have plenty of members to take care of a call a day. Or maybe the FFD should have 30 members like the waste of money FPD does? You should concern yourself with paying your FPD salaries of 80k a year.

. You know not of what you speak. 80k. I am good with that. They could hire, but then ther are pension and bennies. These poor blokes work many more hrs a week just to cover shifts. Do the math. Wher else do you get level 3 and 4 paramedics? You get what you pay for and I have no problem with that. There are not plenty of ACTIVE members to cover calls either. In a word your full of stuff. Forgive the spelling errors, no spell check

Well Fredonia had 40 members show up to the fire the other day! 12 members went to the semi roll over on rt 20 at 1 am the other night. Really forgive your spelling, shows your ignorance, everyone has spell check!

Get it right, there are 6, yes thats 6 Full time, not 5 and 2 part time employees, there are 100 Volunteers, of which 35-40 are active, not too bad, Fredonia goes on about the same number of calls as Dunkirk at less than half the cost! And provides Paramedic level service as well.( a number of volunteers are paramedics also)

. You sound like a wanna be professional firefighter, who did not pass the test. Ask any of the paid men or long time volunteer and they will tell you that the response is not there when it is a rescue call at 0300. Everyone shows up for BIG fire , that's where the action is. Manpower is needed at every call every time. We are grateful to those who serve.

You do sound like a paid FF, must be nice to get paid to sleep and watch TV all day, try doing a real job like the cops who actually work all shift, and not sleep and watch TV

. Not a professional firefighter sorry. I am also not anti winkles and their blue lights. Just been around long enough to have seen. 20 yrs ago the volunteers were VERY involved, times change, jobs change, people change. All I know for sure is that I want a full time firefighter to be the first on scene and then hope someone else shows up.

You mean talk on the phone and sit in hiding spots to try and catch those violent speeders who are doing 40 in a 30? Get real you bozo cops around here don't have a clue what real job is. This area is one of the safest in the country. Get real bozo.

I believe Fredonia was covering East Dunkirks call beforehand, also Engine 12 from Fredonia was on scene first, just before Dunkirk showed up! It all does not matter anyhow, all personnel involved worked very well together to handle the call! Dunkirk has a fire, Fredonia and East Dunkirk usually go, East Dunkirk has a fire, Dunkirk and Fredonia usually go, so leave it alone!

What does the town want or expect? The fire department is a service they need, it keeps insurance rates in line and is a necessity. If you do not want to pay the fee, negotiate with forestville,Sheridan or Brocton.. I don't want to pay high prices for gas but I need it and have no option. Also, what do fredonia residents receive for paying town taxes. If you feel you have been getting the shaft for all these years, shame on you for waiting so long to finally say or do something. Your between a rock and a hard place and I do wish you luck.

Actually the $9,000 increase in the contract figures out to be what for the average Town tax payer?, Probably not much at all!

To change a fire district would take a Town wide vote, since a majority of the residents live close to fredonia, the Vote would probably be to stay with Fredonia! I myself live in Pomfret, but closer to Cassadaga, Even though I am closer to the Cassadaga Station, it does not mean that they can get to my house faster than Fredonia! I had a sick person at my house, both were sent, Fredonia showed up, Cassadaga never did. Cassadaga being a small all Volunteer Department did not have anyone available. It is what it is. I am glad to pay my Fire tax for Fredonia, at least I know that someone is coming. Same goes for Sheridan, Brocton and Forestville, you never know if they will respond and in a timely manor, The old adage: You get what you pay for, I will pay my fire tax for having a paid fireman paramedic on duty!

Lets not forget people it was not that many years ago that a fredonia cop was shot before we start saying the cops around here don't know what a real job is. Everyone thinks its some big scene like in a hollywood movie, in real life rural cops in single man cars waiting for back up take a much greater chance out there.
