You act like someone has gotten drunk and actually killed someone, has this actually happened as you speak of? If we are going to play the what if game why not close all bars because people get drunk and drive home from the bars every day of the week.
Hey Modest Mouse, nobody here seems to agree with you. Maybe it's because you're so angry and not the brightest lightbulb on the string. Whatever it is, it's not your fault really. You should just stay in your maze and run around looking for that piece of cheese you want so bad. Then your feelings won't get hurt and you won't keep making yourself look stupid trying to argue with people who learned how to use their brains.

The real problem is the house parties, the underage kids have no problem getting in and the party just grows and gets out of hand..... I think the landlords who make a fortune on the rental should be be fined for these parties.. if they stopped letting the renters haveing these BIG parties it would help... but to say ban Fred Fest, the kids would just pick a week=end and have it anyway

Why don't we close all the bars in fredonia, can't you see how bars and drinking and driving are connected. I do read every post very carefully. Why do we allow anyone to drink and then drive home. We should turn to a dry town and not let anyone drink and drive.
Lets take a look in the paper and see how many actual collage students are arrested for DWI.
Did I say that putting anyone at risk should be tolerated? Did you really even read all the posts you fire back at? You need to learn to read more carefully and think more thoroughly before you post on here.
If someone is breaking the law, then by all means ticket them or arrest them if warranted. Everyone views their side without looking at the big picture.
The college has stood firm on the students drinking and bring reckless on campus, because of that the parties have moved to the streets. If the FPD can't keep the students in line than what is your solution
I do not wish for anyone to drink and drive, or cause destruction of property. I'm asking what can be done legally to prevent Fredfest.
These students pay rent. They can/will have over and underage people over to drink this and every weekend. I'm not saying its ok, but what would you're the college and or town to do about it legally?
Honey, I only commented on one posting. I'm not firing back at any but one really. Your belligerent responses speak volumes about how you're doing the opposite of what you are obviously yelling at me about. Someday dear when you're older and have more experience in life and more knowledge under your belt you'll see there are a variety of legal avenues to address the issues at stake here. As I said before, please think about how foolish you make yourself look on here. If this is an attempt to get respect or get people to take you seriously, you aren't going about it the right way. Don't be so hostile, it doesn't help your cause when you post on here. Take some time and think about why you want to post on here, then you'll post messages people will listen to. I'd hope you'd rather be listen to than laughed at, because that's what's going to happen.

How do you purpose to fix or end Fredfest, and what are you actually going to do about it?

Underage drinking is not a "real adult crime" and they aren't going to "lock them up". I do not make any money off the students that anyone else in the town doesn't share.
I do not want them to wreck our town, I don't want anything damaged or stolen. I also don't want to think what this town would be without those students. Factories are closing down, our country/state/town are all facing financial strife. I feel as though for all the good things this collage does for the town one weekend of disruption is a fair trade off
did you see water, temple or canadaway streets on Sunday morning. Totally trashed, they broke street sign on temple near rt 20 totally off by M&t bank and le ft 2ft high metal spears coming out of the cement which could easily hurt people. Get rid of this. Ellicotville has a great Octoberfest with as many people and seldom a problem

And I suppose your mommy and daddy paid for the education you received that made you such an arrogant, uncaring idiot? I say this because it's obvious you have never had to pay for anything in your short and shallow life, nor have you had any sense of values instilled in your pea-brain, at least thus far. Having fun, even drunken fun, should not cause harm to others. Simple rule, don't you think, "Paul"?

I have an idea. I'm gonna move to a college town that has one weekend set aside a year for students and complain about how something that's been going on for decades is unpleasant to me that one weekend a year.

I have family that used to live on Temple and they never had a problem with it. I have friends with family that own some of the buildings students rent out and they don't have a problem with it.

Suck it up. You want to blame kids for having fun, I'll blame you for making this the only way kids can have fun.

One very simple thing would be to petition or file suit to have a noise ordinance put in place, maybe no loud noise between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM, something simple like that. See honey, a possible solution. That would curb the house parties and ruckus on the streets. Like I said, when you get some life experience under your belt you'll understand there are things that can be done, even legal things. I knew becoming an attorney would pay off in more ways than one. I had a thought! Now, why don't you start taking some advice and stop looking so single-mindedly polemic and foolish! Please! I hope you don't like being laughed at, because that's worriesome and you certainly deserve better I'd hope.

Solution to a problem affecting the minority, and in turn, causing more problems for the majority.

Wonder why kids go out and do drugs and have sex? Because you people keep taking away everything else. They can't do anything because they're only in middle/high school. What are you going to do when you take away things from college students? They can actually fight back.

I think the best solution for people who don't like living in a college town, is to move out.

It's really quite simple,Do not steal, damage or putz with other people's property. If you do, be prepared for the consequences. That can be either an arrest or for a beat down. Puke or pee where you consumed it.

"I think the best solution for people who don't like living in a college town, is to move out."

last time i was in town was 10 years ago....and i could see then that many long time fredonians had/were taking that very same advice.

i grew up in fredonia from 1950 til 2003 and i still manage to remember many BIG parties that were held back then.
alot of smoke to be found and the alcohol flowed freely back then.....but,as usual in this country excesses are the problem.
not enough to catch a buzz on the weekends nowadays....getting wasted is the norm...and its sad.
sad because folks like you get on here and say stuff like " Wonder why kids go out and do drugs and have sex? Because you people keep taking away everything else".
huh?
the village residents owe you something to do thats entertaining???
why not blame it on that high dollar college....they should be the ones to foot the bill for your entertainment
after all...if not for the college being here you would be somewhere else right now, wanting them to entertain you.

why not blame/punish someone other than the residents of this village....they just pay the taxes, not make the decisions.
when you grow up you will understand....

Now lets see if you can get this done! You have clearly stated what you believe, and what could fix the problem. Lets see if you are capable of actually doing anything about it.

No, my young and stupid friend, no you wouldn't. You'd just wind up lying in the driveway, hurt and bleeding. And your response pretty much proves my point and observations about you.

Only 40 arrests this year. Down from one hundred something last year. Seemed like pretty much a normal weeekend, except for the end of Forest near the bars and Canadaway Street.

Ban Fred Fest? No way.
