Fred Fest is already ruining town and it isn't even Friday yet. Is there really any point to continuing having this ridiculous excuse for students from the college to get drunk and urinate in public while trashing public and private property? Chased two out of the yard already and they left their friend behind, she was too drunk to get off the ground. Cops and EMTs took her away.

I can't say students getting that drunk or even being on your property is a good thing.

I try to think about how much money that school does bring into the area, how many jobs it produces. If the students want to get a little crazy one weekend I understand it.

Let them get a little crazy on campus then. They can destroy/steal each other's property, and urinate in their own doorways!

. The college quit allowing this and drinking on campus years ago. This is only the Mutha of weekends, this type of behavior occurs everyweekend. Just look how many times the brick thing on Temple by the attorneys driveway gets busted up. Let them party on campus, let them have bands and party there. When one gets killed because they are staggering down the road THEN maybe something will happen.

The biggest problems all started when the college did away with the booze on campus for Fredfest. The whole thing turned to house parties instead. If they want to have this they need to keep them on campus to drink. It's just a matter of time before someone gets killed. Drunk kids on rooftops are a disaster waiting to happen. At least on campus there would be some supervision. To be honest though the drinking doesn't bother me because I think just about everybody does that in college. I have a problem with all the destruction and mess left behind. I also don't need my 5 year old seeing naked people fu@king in my backyard. Maybe that's just me.

The college policed their own and it has moved off campus because of it. If you want things to change around town this weekend YOU will be the one to make it change. The college isn't responsible for what the students do on the weekend off campus

Parents, students & the college contribute to this MESS! What is the point of Fred Feast? The "students" have been taught by their parents (which is reinforced by the college) that they are entitled to do whatever they want and these are the best years of their lives so go for it, you're not responsible for anything you do or the consequences it brings! The college can to put a stop to it, and this weekend would be like every other weekend & a not the huge drunk fest it has become. How about you let them party at your house for the weekend and we won't have to deal with it. Maybe after your property has been destroyed, stolen and urinated on you might understand part of what the Village Residents feel.

I am a village resident and home owner. How can the college put a stop to it? How can they control what students do off campus on the weekends?

The college gets reports of student violations off campus, and some are actually held accountable for it.
Bring in the sheriff dept. and state police as back up, sweep ll the parties and lock up all the underage drinkers, charging them with real adult grown up crimes.

Modest mouse, are you making money off the Fred festers? Seems like you think they should be allowed to wreck OUR town...

Actually, lease the fairgrounds. Completely controlled access, short walk from campus. Contain them in a fenced in corral and let them have their fun. Control who drinks, sell the beer, and on and on. Fred Fest in a big pen. Maybe that's the solution.

Underage drinking is not a "real adult crime" and they aren't going to "lock them up". I do not make any money off the students that anyone else in the town doesn't share.

I do not want them to wreck our town, I don't want anything damaged or stolen. I also don't want to think what this town would be without those students. Factories are closing down, our country/state/town are all facing financial strife. I feel as though for all the good things this collage does for the town one weekend of disruption is a fair trade off

Underage drinking isn't a real adult crime? Okay, let the 19 year olds get hammered. Then hope you're not in the path of the car they're driving to the next party. I've had underage drinkers ruin the lives of friends and family IN THIS TOWN. Think about the bigger picture before basing your argument on the college being an economic generator. The kind of disruption events like Fred Fest isn't a necessary evil for the college to stay open and support the economy. Think about the DANGER to property and LIFE it creates. Fred Fest doesn't keep the college in business, providing educational opportunity does. I'm done with this "kids will be kids" attitude, don't enable the self-destructiveness this encourages for us or for the students.

You didn't say drinking and driving, obviously a very different thing. Lets close all the bars in general with that logic, and outlaw alcohol. I've seen many adults ruin lives with drinking and driving

. Keep it ON campus, like it used to be THEN strictly enforce, underage drinking downtown. Case closed.
