For those of you that don't know Porterville High School it's located near the Sierra Nevada just and hour south of Fresno. Their football team has probably been the worst in the past couple of decades from the East Yosemite League(EYL). Last season(2005-2006) record was 1-9. This year so far it looks similar so far with a record of 1-4. If you know anything about Porterville Panther Football post you comment letting me know what you think of this "cursed" football team.

I think that the teams 'curse' has nothing to do with the team, I think that it has all to do with coach Gary Stuzman. This supposed cursed team went 9-1 when they where froshmen and 9-1 again when they where on j.v. winning the league title both times. Now i know there is a big jump from j.v. to varsity but i dont think the jump would have that much of an effect on these boys. They were a very good team that got along with each other better that any team i have seen before, but once they got under the direction of 'coach' Stuzmen they feel apart and i started to see figthting on the sidelines and even on the field, not only between players but coaches as well. So you can't blame this last couple of years on the boys if you want to throw blame around there is only one person who should be in your target sights and that's Gary Stuzmen

Ima Defensive lineman at Granite Hills in Porterville. Ok..Porterville was not tha bad this year. We beat them 37 to 15. but, we were the best team in the EYL. We were league chams, and they gave us good competition. Its not the team, that is cursed. It is the coaching staff. They need 2 get guys in there that can coach the game. As for next year. i will Give them 4 wins.

im was a runningback/db at porterville and ok granite my hav won the eyl title and good 4 them but the fact still is if we would have had anybody coaching us but stuz then we would hav have won handly. if i remember correctly we killed granite froshmen and sophmore year when we didnt hav stuz and i know the players that came up for granite didnt make that much of a difference in their playing. and i dont wana hear all that crap about how 'varsity is so much different from jv and we just didnt transtion good' because im tired of all that nobody but the players on the team really know what went on during the year and people need to stop pretending like they do. now im not taking anything away from granite they beat us fair and square and yes they were the eyl champs but like i said before if the coaching staff were changed that would have been a totally different game and a totally different season.

I have alot of confidence in Porterville's Football program for this season. I know quite a few of them and i know they are a "solid" staff now. you can take a kid thats never played the game before and stick him out on the football field and he wouldnt know what to do he would be horrible without guidance from a smart coaching staff. To be honest the team hasnt done anything since Mike Cruse was the coach. I played for Coach Cruse and he was a real coach. He ran a tough program but i can honestly say there was never a time i was out on the field that i didnt know my assignment. Thats what Porterville has been missing. Now with the new coaching staff they have i am more than confident they can win the EYL title again. I wouldnt count out PHS this seaon folks.

Dont be so closed minded and ignorant. If u were to read the previous posts and figure out whats really going on in this discussion then you would see that we are talking about the team and not just one game.
And what is "they should just give up" mean? are you saying that they should not have football anymore or is there some brilliant underlying meaning that im missing. Please tell me becaue right now I'm just in shock of the genius of your statement. Think before you talk.

What was your record when you could "do what you wanted?"

Players should only run things when they are able to perform in the coaches system.

well im not trying to contradict the coaching but come on the new coach is doing the same as stuz but what i ment by "doing what we wanted" i ment how we r comftrable playing and that was throwing the ball and trick plays and some run plays. dont get me wrong but this years football team is ganna be good team because i played with them and they have a lot of heart but the coaching will hurt them. and as for the record it was better then varsities record

I get it sounds fair enough. I think a lot of times we talk about coaches and coaching and everyone has the right answer until they try and do it. Here is what I have learned over the years. It does not matter what offensive scheme or defensive package you run; if players do not "buy in;" and you can't motivate them to "buy in," then you'll never be as good as you should. I guess that's kinda what you were saying about being "comfortable." You never know with Porterville. I have seen them play very well against teams that both Granite and Monache had trouble with.

This shows you haven't learned shiznit!!

It does matter what you run and how you call the plays. Until Porterville gets a coach that can teach the players how to play and then control a game with key calls we WILL LOSE!! Porterville has pop warner coaches trying to play checkers on Friday night when football is a chess game.

Too bad Collins was a JV coach and not a Varsity Coach. I agree with you Juan, a game of chess and respect from players is what it is all about.

Hey "Fan" that might be why you're just a fan and not a coach. All you fans always have 20/20 hindsight, but when you're in the mix and have to make calls you don't have an answer. I have been very respectful to everyone on this board thus far, however, if you do not even know 1/10 of what I know about football especially if all you've ever played is high school football.

I respect your opinion "fan" and you can talk all you want on this board, but the truth is, if players don't buy in, I don't care what you call; it ain't gonna work. What is Coach Collins doing these days?

Much love and respect to all coaches and players, but back up and have some respect about intelligent insight.

Sincerely, I appreciate all opinions, but if you don't know that opinions can be false; usually based on incomplete information and emotion, then we will get nowhere.

Porterville, the entire town, used to be a football town. Porterville High School used to be a pretty decent team for awhile in the 1950's and then for awhile in the late 1980's. I love and respect football; don't lump me in with all these other half intelligent high school kids that don't know any better.

Then Monache under Coach Anderson represented Porterville well in the early 1990's taking Monache to the finals for Valley recognition.

Granite has done pretty well especially when they had Bear Pascoe.

Porterville College was giving a lot of hometown kids opportunities for scholarships until Steve Peck had his scandal.

I wish Porterville would go back to how it used to be: A FOOTBALL TOWN instead of some punk gang town.

Anyway, I want to set the record straight. I am not bashing any coaches; not even Brian Collins, who I also believe is a good coach.

This thread is about Porterville Football and whe it will turn around to its past greatness; don't try and bash me so you can sound tough.

Peace and love to all.

What are your thoughts on Granite? Someone needs to start a separate thread. I know there is a Monache thread. Come on lets get this town back to some healthy competition discussion.

Hey Juan,
It sounds like Wanderer is a coach at Porterville the way he talks?
