Speaking of LaForge, There was a railroad crossing out there, near some place called Farrenberg. Legend had it that if you parked down the road, and waited until after midnight, a light would come by the tracks....supposedly a railroad worker from way back, searching for his severed head from an accident.....

the farrenburg light is supposed to be the lantern held by a man who is looking for his head, i have seen it, when we were kids you could walk down the tracks FOREVER!! and never reach this light, but you could see it, it has been explained a a ball of gases that is illuminated in the moonlight, farrenburg is on the county road out of laforge, take the first blacktop to the left, you are in farrenburg.

I went there several times as a teen and saw the light quite often. We put a car on the tracks, let some air out of the tires, and tried to catch the light, couldn't do it. We also parked on a bridge just across the tracks and could hear a baby crying. I have been back up there and the tracks are all gone and the railroad bed is now used as a road by farmers. No more light, no more cry baby bridge.

I haven't been there at night in a long time. Guess the light could still be there even if there's no railroad left. If I ever get a date with a lady, we might just drive up there at night and see. Would be interesting to find out.

Me and Eugene went to the Light once to check it out. We saw something but if you look long enough your brain probsbly plays tricks on you. Gas from trees? Those must be some trees cause that story has been around since my dad was a kid mabey longer.

I would like to ride up to Farrenberg light Sat. night if a lady would like to go. Nothing expected, would just enjoy the company.

I don't believe it's gas from trees. In the 60s a friend and I double dated two girls here in Portageville and the light flashed 3 times right above or vehicle. Needless to say the girls started screaming bloody murder and we got gone as fast as I could crank up and go go go....

LOL, I was just saying it would be nice to ride up there and see if the light is still there, but not alone. I am 57 and if a group of people wanted to go, regardless of age, it would be nice I think, something different anyway. You want to go???

I am happy for you and anyone who has someone in their life. If a group was to get together and go, including you and your boyfriend, I think it would be something, especially if the light still exists. In case you are wondering who I am, my real name is Larry Jones, a disabled veteran that has been single for 8 years and not looking for marriage, just friends of any age. Can't have to many of those can we?

I grew up around Portageville, graduated in 68. I was married 28 years and lived in Dexter most of those years. After our split in 99, I moved back here to Portageville and now live at 412 East Third St. Small double wide on the corner of 3rd and Warren. First house behind Simmons Service Station. Who are you, or stop by and introduce yourself sometime. If my truck is parked in back I am usually here. I promise I am a gentleman.
