As a former employee of Noranda, I'll tell you that the employees are the last to know about a layoff.

My bf works at Noranda and he has heard of a layoff and they are already cutting out an entire department, and putting some of them on 8 hour shifts instead of 12, so maybe you need to get your facts straight!

cute out an entire department? ha thats funny, each department is interdependant on one another. however "some" of the people in certain departments have been moved to 8 hr days. as far as the lay-off only time will tell.

Usually the wives of the employees know more about it anyway. Just so that you know, I am a "former" employee by my own choosing. I know it is hard to believe someone would walk away from such a wonderful place of employment but some people do move on to bigger and better things.
yes they did

CUT, not cute, out an entire department, in fact it was the rod mill, they had to put all of the employees working in that department in other depts. They can't keep doing that or they will have no choice but to lay off some...maybe not 150, or whatever was said in the first post, but some...

Sells are down a Noranda just like everywhere else. In the departments, such and the rod mill, there is not as much work being done because of low sells. Therefore some of the ee's have been moved elsewhere. Metal Services is the same way. Certain products are not selling at this time so therefore, ee's have been moved around. They are taking this time to repair some of the furnaces and such. There probably will be some layoffs both hourly and company. Exactly how many as not been leaked at this time. Rather than the world trying to keep things moving everyone is setting on their money and not buying much. This will hurt all of us.

so you're telling me that both rodmills are shut down? or do you mean mill 2 has been down since tuesday night? Which is different than cutting out an "entire" department. You are correct that there will probably be a layoff though, to what extent and for how long? nobody knows yet.
