This was discussed on KFVS 12 tonight. Some school (sorry, can't remember which one) has a new rule that will not allow cell phones at school. I'm just curious how other people felt about this. Personally, I agree 100%. I really can't think of a good reason to have one at school.

I believe the students would take advantage.

I believe they already do. I know for a fact that some kids are texting during school hours. The rule is that the phones are supposed to be turned off. Kinda funny how one can text without power, hmmm?

I think cell phones are great, but should only be used in an emergency situation. Instead, for some people, they are addictive. If a student would take a cell phone to school, leave it off during school hours or unless they have permission to call home, then I see no problem with them. But, you always have that few who will not abide by the rules and they make it hard on those who do.

I wish people would be more courteous when they are out in public with their phones. I get tired of going to a restaurant to eat and the next table has a phone conversation constantly going. Don't know why they feel they have to talk so loud.Ha.

I hate, and can't understand, people who sit on 'the throne' and have a conversation! PEOPLE, PLEASE! I don't wanna listen to that!!!

That's funny. I think they should be allowed to have them at school only they should be OFF during school hours. If caught with them on: 1st time - parents notified 2nd time - school detention 3rd time - suspension I feel better if my child has a direct line of communication with me and if something crazy should happen at school at least my kid can contact me. But I firmly believe they should be OFF and strict rules applied.

They are too easy to cheat on tests, they text friends for answers. they won't leave them turned off, thats why teachers don't want them to have them. I have a friend who teaches at the school and she said the kids are terrible with them.

They are a distraction to the educational process. Students should not be allowed to possess them during school hours.

2008-2009 Student handbook, pg. 22.

Students may NOT have cell phones at school. Cell phones found at school may be confiscated and other penalties may apply.

I am sorry but, that is such a retarded answer. A freakin cell phone is not going to make you or keep you safe from a "mass murder". Why don't you teach your kid to report suspicious student activity? Or hearing a student may want to do harm. After all these tragedies it has been proven time & again that there were warning signs and also fellow students knew what was to take place but it was not reported. No student should be allowed to have a cell phone while in school, period.

Very interesting. Someone decided to re-do the student handbook as well as the employee handbook this year. Very interesting.

I also watched the story on KFVS12 and the superitendent stated the camera on the phones and the internet could create serious problems. If the students are not allowed to have phones at the school then the teachers and the administrators should not be allowed to have them either. History has proven that..

There are definite pros and cons to having phones at school. I would want my child to have one in case of an emergency, but the situations like using it to text friends test answers and stuff is a big reason why the schools don't want them in there, too. But you know, there are also nice little features like AT&T's Smart Limits that you can add to your kid's phone to make it so they can't text/call during certain hours of the day except to certain phone #'s, which you can designate yourself through the website.:D This is a nice little feature that I will no doubt put on my little girl's phone when she gets one. I agree with parent. Teachers should not have them at school either. When I was in school nobody had a cell phone (heck, they didn't exsist) and everything went fine. If there was an emergency then you just went to the office and used a phone, plain and simple.

Thats a good answer, if they had a problem at school they don't need all the parents in the way down there and having to deal with them too. And in this area this is a small school most of the other schools had over 1000 students to deal with. But like Mr. Simpson said a lot of shootings couldn't have been stopped had the kids been paying attention to their surroundings. Also if smart elic kids were reported making fun of or doing something to the quiet students because they are the ones that will go off. Hope all the students have a safe year.

I think cell phones should be allowed at school. I work and my husband works and our child has after school activities, without her cell phone how am I suppose to know when to pick her up?? There is no one in the office that late and the teachers and coaches do not give a time when they're meetings will be over. So my child will take her cell phone regardless of the rules and if it gets taken away......she'll get another one!!!
If the students cannot have their phones then the teachers, principals, etc should not have theirs. Last year several teachers were talking on their cell phone while they were suppose to be teaching class.
