What is with parents lately? Is the fact that alot of these cases lately are linked to the welfare state we have created? You would assume if these are poor people on welfare that they probably do not work so why is it that they cannot keep their eyes on their kids and a clean home, it is not like they have nothing else to do.

Just one more reason why the welfare state we have created in this country just does absolutely nothing for people. Socialsm at its finest.

I once knew a woman in Ionia county whose house was so filthy- there were overflowing ashtrays next to the kids at the kitchen table, maggots on the floor under the trash, black mold growing rampant in the bathroom, and trails between stacked belongings to go from room to room. Spiderwebs hung over a foot down from all the ceilings and dirty clothes were in piles over 2 feet high. The smell was TERRIBLE.

We called Ionia county DSS and were told they didn't care about filthy living conditions for children, only "abuse" or "neglect". They wouldn't even check it out.

It's not that we're tattle tales for DSS- I'd never called them before, I was just worried about the kids (6 and 11 yrs).

What exactly is a parole 'absconder'? Someone who makes off with parole? I thought they were just called parole violaters.

That is the right thing to do though! In my early yrs I knew of a person like that. Trails to get everywheres in their house. Leftovers still sitting in the pans from the night before & the kids are eating this fly infested food! The smell of piss loomed in the air... GOD how can people live like this?? Im a housewife & my house is not perfect cause of kids, but its clean!! People are just sooo lazy now. Alot of kids are too. Its just so sad cause most of us would consider that child abuse!

I think it depends on which county you live in. A friend and I have kids about the same age, and were receiving assistance when they were babies. I had to be in school or work by the time mine was 1 y.o. in Kent Co. She could wait until her child was 3 y.o. and they lived in Allegan Co. Maybe it has to do with transportation.

Absconding is when a parolee either stops reporting or never reports to their parole officer -- which is not the same as a parolee that reports, but commits a crime or performs an action that violates a condition of their parole.

Violators break the rules: IE the parolee who did his drugs and then reported to the parole office as instructed, took drug test & got in trouble

Absconder: The parolee who doesn't report as he/she is ordered to by the parole officer.

i don't think being too messy makes you a bad parent.i know things have changed ever since they took out home eck out of school. i feel if your neighbor needs help then you should help them.

Why are people assuming that they are on welfare.
Just because they have a messy house doesn't mean that they are on welfare. The area in which they live is an area of nice middle class homes and is not used to trouble or violence. It is a very family orientated area. Remember what they say about assuming.

Well I have a friend who was on assisance who quit her job because she was sick of working and now she gets more aid than she before so she has no need or desire to go back to work so go figure o how the welfare system works nowadays

Remember back when the government made it a law for children to be in a booster or car seat and everyone said things like "another way the government is parenting our children". Its because of things like this is why. Some people are to blind to do the parenting on there own. So when they pass a law that you must have a clean house you'll know why, which won't effect all of us that already live in a clean enviroment.I don't care how poor you are, it doesn't cost money to clean up after yourself.

I must say that you don't have to be on welfare to be an idiot, filthy, lazy, a bad parent, etc...there are plenty of idiots making good money too, not just "living off the state". So lets not assume they are rich, poor, black, or white. The scum of the earth are everywhere and in every class and race. And not everyone on welfare is taking advantage...sometimes the system really does work and keep innocent hard working people fed and off the street. Bad times can come to any one of us. God forbid you should ever be in need. I can barely pay for my kids diapers and my husband and I both work our azzez off (we are not on welfare btw)...sometimes michigan just sucks!

I would like to find just how many kids are in foster care? We got a couple of kids recenly removed from Newaygo two boys. There was human feces and urine half full in the bath tub. In the downstairs bath tub there was a Keg of beer on ice when the kids were removed Urine ring stains soaked into the sub flooring. Fist holes in the drywall. Some kind of dead animals in the ductwork. People using plastic two litre coke bottles with a pin hole punched in to sniff gasoline.
No one can seem to locate the parents, they ran when cops showed up. Kids like this needs tons and tons of help and so will the parents if we chose to adopt.
House was in tax forclosure, no phone, no heat, no electricity all cut off for non payment. Whoever buys that property will have to do a floor joist up restoration and have a big bon fire.

This article was very poorly written. The headline was about kids being taken out of their parent's control when the whole story was mostly about the capture of a parole.

The people are correct to NOT assume there is any welfare involve here... I used to work for a janitoral service and we would get calls to clean the nicest homes in the wealthiest areas that were D I S G U S T I N G - one even had an entire sub-floor made of dog crap in the basement - it's where they put the guard dogs when they brought them in for the night.... One other I remember well is when we were cleaning for a Christmas Open House and the Thanksgiving meal and dishes were still in the formal dinning room - stench and flies could have knocked you over.... It's sometimes where you have to wonder where laziness ends and some sort of mental illness begins.... unreal.....
