Two people were hurt after they were struck by an SUV early Sunday morning. Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers were sent to the 900 block of East Crosstown at 3:40 a.m. and found a 23-year-old ...

Let's see. A hit and run with TX plates. Anyone care to take a guess at who was driving? I've been a hit and run victim five times.(car hit) Three were caught; two by me and all three were driving without a license and or insurance. Oh and all three spoke no English.

Once again WOOD wants us to believe the SUV was to blame for the accident. HELLOOOOOO, there was probably someone driving it. It really doesn't matter what kind of vehicle it was..it was the driver's fault, not the vehicle.
They will do everything they can (WOOD) to get people to hate SUV's.
If the person had walked out in front of the car, would you blame the shoes?
Just plain STUPID reporting.
Bet they don't read this one on the air.

The reason they have a description of the vehicle there is to make people aware that it was a hit and run incident, and the driver is still at large. I am sure that their hopes are that someone will read this, recognize the vehicle, see the damage to the vehicle and call police, resulting in the arrest of the driver. While you may think of this as a subversive plot against SUV's, to me it is a TV station passing along valuable information that will hopefully land someone behind bars. Whether the SUV was at fault or not, whoever was driving it left the scene of an accident where people were injured, and that is against the law.

you should consider yourself so lucky to have been hit five times and are still alive to talk about it!

With respect to the posting by OkeN, who suspects that the perp was a Mexican illegal (although not stated explicitly), one can never be assured WHO the perp is unless apprehended, which is unlikely.
Now, having said that, based on my personal experience, OkeN is probably correct in his assumption. I, also, have been struck by hit-and-run drivers, twice, with one causing lifelong disability, and in both cases witnesses confirmed the ethnicity of the driver. Yep, Mexican.
Mexicans are known for this because so many of them are illegal, have no liscence, registration, or insurance, and do not want to get deported. This happens over and over again. I am aware of others, including an attempted hit-and-run event in Holland recently in which resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. Now, there are certainly a lot of law-abiding and legal people from Mexico among us, but it is the ILLEGAL ones who are the danger. They don't know the rules of the road and are usually very poor drivers, hence, the plethora of accidents such as this one.

Who was blaming the SUV for the accident Anne? I didn't read that anywhere. They were mearly giving as much of a description of the vehicle as they could in case it is seen. You must feel the need to defend the gas guzzling SUV that you drive.

The officers that responded to the two that I caught said exactly the same thing. Most hit and runs are unlicensed Mexican drivers. This is a major problem all over the country. This is not an assumption, it is fact. We as legal, insurance carrying drivers pay the price.

You're being ridiculous. You're reading something into this story that's not there.

And yes...I do hate SUVs. They're ridiculous and wasteful.

Hmmm RED SUV with Texas plates. Lets see...... I just can't imagine WHO could have been driving or why they would flee the scene. Perhaps someone that shouldn't be in this country in the first place!?!?

This has illegal mexican immigrant all over it.

.......... well technically... the suv did the hitting, and the person did the driving, not unless they were sitting on the front bumber and driving it,... which would probably hurt... neways, they said suv because they needed help finding who did it, and all they knew originally was that it was an suv

I have come to realize that Wood's forum is a great way for some West Michigan folks to vent their racism.

Any car from Texas that does a hit and run is a Mexican..??? Think about the messages you are sending to everyone reading this.
I will use your line of thinking and say every white person is a racist. I see it on the forums so it must apply to everyone.

and some are racist against forms of transportation that are different than their own. I have to drive an SUV for work, so don't go judging me just because some pencil pusher thinks he needs one to get to his downtown job.

Ha. I see more SUV's in the ditches along the sides of the highways than any other type of vehicle.
