What did Granholm buy with our $86 million in taxes back in April of 2008?
Kalamazoo Gazette Editorial Sep. 14 2008-
"Case in point: The village of Mattawan, where MPI, a contract pre-clinical research company, is located.
It was announced in April that MPI planned to triple its employment in the next five to seven years -- by adding about 3,300 jobs.
The tradeoff?$86 million in state tax credits,$15.8 million in potential lost tax revenue to the city of Kalamazoo -- where MPI plans to move 400 workers -- over the next 15 years, and $5.5 million from the state for the taxes MPI would have owed school districts, Kalamazoo Valley Community College and the Kalamazoo Public Library. But we don't really have to wait years to see the impact of MPI's tax breaks on Mattawan.
Ground has been broken.
More jobs are on the way."
MPI Research in Mattawan, MI started laying off the first wave of 600+ people 10 weeks later.
So no worries then! Jobs are on the way! Right? I mean they are aren't they? On the way? How about just send me a check for $86 MILLION dollars and I'll hire 2,457 people for a year as a stimulus project!
