The irony of this. Once their caught they go to a place that doesn't allow cigarettes anymore (prison).

Your headline is misleading. The station was not "robbed" only people can be "robbed" Robbery is the taking of property by force from another ie unarmed and armed robbery.

8K= aprox $3625 in smokes & $4375 in lost tax. Barry & Jenney make more than the smoke shop.

I know it doesn't make it right, but as the state politicians keep driving jobs out and raising taxes on everything, we are going to see more of this.
Maybe it's just time to put a closed sign on Michigan.

Saw this coming.

Raising the taxes on cigarettes is almost like prohibition. All it's going to do is make cigarettes unobtainable by those who want to kill themselves, causing those people to do what they can to get cigarettes.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a whole lot more of this.

Taxes were already paid by the distributor, who then collects from the store.

Basically, the store gets raped on this. But with prohibitive taxes, expect to see this as a weekly occurrance.

MILFORD, Conn.(WTNH)- More than $90,000 in cigarettes were stolen over the weekend from a Milford business that supplies items to convenience stores.
More than 1,500 cartons of cigarettes, along with some health and beauty supplies were stolen early Saturday from Montano Cigarette, Candy and Tobacco on the Boston Post Road.
The thieves damaged the burglar alarms and disrupted phone and electricity services to the building. They used a ladder to get on the roof of a neighboring building, then disabled other alarms with a sledgehammer and broke through the roof near ventilation ducts to get inside Montano.
Police say the thieves also stole their getaway vehicle, a 24 foot box truck, from a rental company a few blocks away.
The box truck has Budget Rental markings and an Oklahoma license plate.
Anyone who may have seen the truck is asked to call Milford Police

The owner will recover most if insured, however...since the customers pay the cost built into the storeowners margin, it's net effect resides in the customers cost.

The tax is already paid, for the most part, before it even gets to the store so no tax is lost except sales tax.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen stories yet of entire semi loads being stolen. Even the case in Connecticut only works out to about 1800 cartons, much less than a truckload would be.

Heck, if I knew them, I'd give them $25 a carton. I am beyond ready to turn to the black market for cigarettes. Anyone have any out of country orders anytime soon?
