I have to chime in. I'm visiting from NYC and with the intent to relocate and people are very rude. Nobody yet has held the door open when they go through first, if I call a business or a realtor I'm treated like I am bothering them (very cold and annoyed)and answer the phone with "Yeah?"...who answers the phone like this?? I say thank you with no "you're welcome" or if I do something for someone I get no "thank you". I say bless you to someone who has sneezed and no "thank you". I'm in Holland and please tell me it gets better! I smile and say hello and nobody knows how to smile here! I have traveled all over the world and never have encountered such miserableness. I realize the economy has hit Michigan hard, but my goodness! If you have no courtesy then you have nothing. I am sure there are decent people in this state and I wish I could find some!

were not rude, ive lived in Kalamazoo all my life. My partners family is from the south and they commented on how nice the people are here. You may have ran into some rude people as you will anywhere, but we are long known for our hospitality. We are fast paced yes, but not rude. dont judge.

They are rude at work because they'd rather be doing something else... and their money is tight because they have bought too many pizzas. They are losing their grip on their arrogance and they are just plain lazy as hell and yet all the work has to get done ... someone has to do it. They're children are hungry and subversive. They are professional grouches.

I'm sorry that you have encountered rude behavior, however, there are rude people in every city. Been to Chicago lately?
I have lived in this area my whole life, and have heard visitors talk about how much they have enjoyed our city and how friendly people are here.
I don't know who you are speaking to, but they are certainly not the entire make-up of Kalamazoo. I have worked with wonderful realtors (try Joyce Vos, Prudential), and feel that what you have experienced is an isolated incident.
Hang out at some of our cafes and breweries downtown, and I am sure you will come away with a different view of Kalamazoo.:)

I have to agree that people there are very rude. I was born in kzoo. At 12 I went to get to know my dad and was jumped everyday I went to school. Attacked by strangers for no reason other than I wasn't black enough or white enough for their liking. Sorry I have met some good people from kzoo, but most are very rude and hateful. I don't even like to visit my family there because with the shooting and stuff always comes too close to home and bullets don't there names on them.

If I were you I would just keep any light that you may possess to yourself. Something that you might consider personal to someone else may be misconstrued and be used against you to cause your death. People are so rude, ignorant, stupid, wreckless, backstabbing, jealous, full of covetousness, with murderous thoughts, predilections, tongue-lashing, disgraceful, embarrassing, and the tool of the devil that you simply can't waste or spend any of your time amongst them. They are more treacherous than New York city with all the lights out. Damn people! All of them!

I think a lot of Kalamazoo is chill. Especially the college area, just a bunch of stoners that's all. If your complaining because no one opened the door for you, sorry, we don't wipe peoples asses for them either. Ok so I guess we might be a little rude, but we're just better than everyone else, that's all... lol but foreal though, the worst snobbyest people in Michigan all pool in Ann Arbor! In case you forgot, just go there for a weekend, they make people in Kalamazoo look like angels!

Are we there yet?... Evil cannot create itself ... it must have a proprietor or proprietors. Most Michiganders are cold and evil.

It may have something to do with a heavily German-Dutch bloodlines that founded the area....also the cold, strict Church doctrine, that they likely brought with them....I grew up around italians, by comparisn....my elders were made of ice.....

Sorry you feel that way about a US president who is not really BLACK. The man is a milano, ergo we still do not have a black president. Plus many people in Michigan voted for B.O. so you are also judging them in your group? Maybe it if you who has the racist problem.

Sounds as if you are generalizing and not really get to know people from Kalamazoo. Think about it, depends on the generation. Older people know how to hold open doors, say thank you and please, as well as wave to strangers. I agree that not everyone uses the turn signal switch and yes, that bothers me as well, but I do not generalize ALL in a certain area. Both my husband and I say that it is a pity that newer cars have a turn signal on them but rarely are used and yes, usually by the younger "me" generation. All depends on how people are raised. A person could find rude people any place as long as they look.(enjoy your life and yes, I was born and raised in Kalamazoo)

People are not always using their turn signal probably because there are so many right hand and left hand turning lanes.

I wish to live in a world where people are not so hard and mean to one another.
