RV parking rights and the chatham county commissioners
Submitted by rv4495 on Sat, 2010-12-11 09:55

The Chatham County Commissioners have a County Ordinance that is totally unfair and ridiculous. The ordinance says you are not allowed to park your RV in your driveway on your own personal property long enough to load and unload before and after trips. But it can be parked in the street for 24 hours where it endangers the public walking or driving around it. It is just a matter of time before someone gets hurt. RV'ers need to band together to get this ordinance changed. Call or e-mail your County Representitive today to get this rediculous ordinance changed or taken off the books. It violates our civil rights! Tell me what you think RV people!!! e-mail me [email protected]

Awe Punkin' let's examine this a bit closer..most likely a valid reason for this ordinance is that it prevents Ol' uncle "Billy Bob" from drivin' his old smokin' 58' Winnebago up on your Drive, Parkin' it..throwin' a extension cord to the house..hookin' up a Garden Hose..and squattin' there for a year or longer and all the while "raw sewage" is runnin' down the driveway and into the street...ya kinda see the logic?..your proclaimed "civil rights" just may well endanger that of "Public" health..that would give the term "Let's go RVing" a whole new dimension.."Honk" if ya agree.

I live in a covenanted subdivision. We can park up to 48 hours. I just want to park it in the driveway long enough to load and unload on trips. I store it on the military base.

I dont see any problem parking it in the driveway long enough to load and unload before and after trips. I would rather have it safely in the driveway apposed to in the street.I think the county government needs to butt out. What a stupid ordinance!!!!!

Maybe where you live, that would not happen here. We live in a respectable neighborhood with a covenance to cover such things.

Hey RV4495,
Do you know the location number/name of the specific ordinance? I am interested in reading the specifics as I have been asked to move my rv, but I cannot find the specific policy on the county's website.
thanks.

If any RVers want to help us fight this ridiculous Ordinance come to the Chatham County Commissioners Meeting at 9:30 tomorrow 11 Feb. at 124 Bull St. in the old courthouse they have it first on the agenda. So please come and voice your opinion and stick up for your parking rights! Also check the front page of todays paper.

I retired to Florida and would not live in a community that would resrict my right to park my Motor Home on my property. Our County requires that it can only be parked on the side or back yard and not in the required front yard and does not allow you to live in it. I disagree with Ms Ross my RV is worth more than a lot of folks home and does not reduce property values and my neighbor is a Real Estate Broker.
Large Motor Homes parked on a paved driveway to the side and behind Large Homes are an indication of afflunance not a slum.
