Ah yes, the sweet sound of your government looking out for your best interests. Liberals and conservatives should be on the same side of this - small government protects the liberty of citizens. The more money government collects - the more programs it has - the more employees it has - the more powerful and aggressive it is going to be. Cut taxes, cut government programs, cut government employees - and much of government abuse and corruption disappears - and people have more of their own money. I don't even blame the Democrats - they are just the newest pigs at the trough. Convict these brown-shirts and then hang them from the nearest lamp pole.

I wish the state government would INTERVENE. Our tax system in Nassau is unfair and burdensome, squeezing every last penny out of honest hardworking homeowners just struggling to make ends meet. We're getting ripped off EVEN further having to pay fees to lawyers and agencies that assist us in grieving our taxes. Nassau's property assessments are a worthless way to determine who should pay what....Someone please come in and REVAMP our tax system!!! HELP!!!!!!

It seems you can't get legal tax breaks unless you are a millionaire. How many property tax breaks have been given to businesses? Hotels, proposed horse centers & who knows what else. _____ The government is no longer for the people or by the people. _____ Our politicians need to study history, or we will go the way of the Roman Empire.

Towns all across the country are in denial mode. They don't want challenges to their ass-essments cuz they know they're going to have reevaluate all properties and lower them as a result of this subprime meltdown which is only getting started. Just wait for the alt-a market and commercial real estate market to blow up. Its going to be ugly

Don't expect DA Rice to investigate or even make a statement. This sounds similar to her wall of shame: people must be committing some sort of fraud and are guilty of wanting tax relief, until proven innocent when the assessor realizes they overtaxed the property.
IIRC, Harvey Levinson was trying to get his overassessment lowered. He must be committing fraud, too.

Bill wrote: isn't it funny when the entire county has gone demorat libera the storm troopers come out to take every last penny the homeowner adworing stiff works for and no one especially Sitzday says a word I'm not sure why you find this so surprising. The Democratic party has always been in favor of "leveling the playing field" by overtaxing the blue-collar worker for the sake of providing public programs like welfare and "special interest housing". Unfortunately we live in a capitalist society with a leftist-government supporting a socialist agenda. Long Island cannot continue to sustain itself if it continues along the path of yearly increases in property taxes. The new proposal being backed by Gov. Patterson is just another example of the State pulling the sheet over the eyes of the public. A 4% cap on school tax increases yearly sounds great, doesn't it? Unfortunately, the media doesn't reiterate that in exchange for a tax hike cap the public will be waiving their right to vote on future school budgets. That translates into an automatic 4% increase yearly regardless of the current economic status. Taxation without representation at its finest. I'd be astonished if this didn't meet a constitutional challenge as soon as it's put into effect. Schools need to be privatized especially given the large percentage of property taxes allocated to funding them. I have absolutely no problem with sending my child to Good Humor Elementary School or Trump Middle School. Education is education. I could give a crap what the district's called or what they serve in their cafeterias...After all, given the amount of money I'd be saving in taxes I'd be able to afford to send my kid to school with the freshest produce and cold cuts so he didn't have to buy a lunch at school.

Do as they say. $10,000 on property taxes a year is cheap to nassau county. They feel there's more where that money came from. The government of the USA has brankrup it's working class. Everything our ansesters worked hard for has gone up in smoke. Everything has become one big store or commerical.

A Desk Appearance Ticket would have been issued, which is a paper arrest, requiring the defendant to be arraigned. No handcuffs, fingerprints or jail. Would that still be considered a false arrest?

There is no end to this madness but to wreck County government as it currently exists. I discovered the answer. I lived on LI for over thirty years, but moved to NH. I should have done so much, much sooner. I supported many union monkeys and pensioners while I worked 80 hour weeks and commuted on the Union Monkey run snail road. NY spends way to much money, and has distracted people into thinking there is a "fairer" tax system. Upstate vs. downstate, city vs. suburbs, schools vs. the towns and counties, etc. All head fakes. The problem is massive spending by thousands of local governments, with no oversight, plenty of corruption, but always with a very healthy, active, voting membership. Spending is the problem. New tax schemes are no solution.
