When we walked in the decor was vibrant and different. The restaurant looked promising, NOT!
The place was busy, but not so busy that people were waiting for seats. We were seated right away that was the beginning of the end. It took 15 mins before a waiter even took our order. OK, They brought us these cold mini pizzas and some red paste balls which tasted okay. Other people asked if we ordered it because all they received was bread. I said not this is what they put down in front of us. Well I was in the middle of eating it when the busboy tried to take it away from us. The wait staff is awful! It took over a 1/2 hr for us to get our appetizers. Which were Falafel which cost $7. You get three small ones that taste okay. Well we waited over 45 mins for our main meal. In the mean time the waiter never came over not even once since taken our order. When someone did come over and we informed her that the service was awful and we were waiting for our meal. She sent over this eggplant spread on the house. It tasted good but what were we suppose to put it one. She never did come back to tell us why it was taking so long or to apologize. Finally after almost 2hrs we received our food. My husband order the lamb chops and I order the cube chicken with rice and veg. My husbands lambchops were dried out paper thin and the rice was mushy and cold like it was seating there for over and hour like us. His meal cost over $25. The chops were so thin it look like they took a normal size chop and cut it into four. You could see through them. My chicken also came with the cold mushy rice, no veg and 5 tiny cubes of chicken which was the equivalent of 1/4 of a chicken breast, If that much which cost $19. We do not mind paying for good food and I can not eat much. But my two year old nephew could eat more than what was on that plate. We never found out how the meat tasted because after trying the rice and looking at the dried out lamb and chicken we were annoyed, hungry and angry. We left hungry and went home and had cereal because it was 10:00 at night at this point. I suggest to every one STAY AWAY FROM THIS TRAIN WREK!!

Sleek, sheek and very sexy is Tava Restaurant! As I was strolling down Main Street the dim candlelight lured me in. It was Tava's opening week and I am thrilled to have a NYC restaurant right in my back yard. The cusinie is authentic Turkish - I choose the Dolma and Kebab for my meal and both dishes were delicious - filled with unique flavors and spices. The decor is just magnificent and with extreme attention to detail, and when I asked who the designer was - I was surprised to find out it was the owners themselves. The service was welcoming and charming. I ordered Ouzo (a popular Turkish liquor) which was not yet in house - the owner actually messengered a bottle from his home. He went over and above what was expected of him. Thank you Tava - I look forward to many dining experiences there.

I tried this restaurant the other night. What a horrible experience and the food was terrible. The wait staff do not now what they are doing and they are tripping all over themselves but are not taken care of the customers. Many people walked out because we had to wait forever for our app and our main meal. We could to a street feast for better food and prices.

DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!!

EXCELLENT..EXCELLENT..EXCELLEN T...TAVA What a great place...It was an excellent night for us. My wife and I were celebratng our anniversary at the newly opened Tava. The decor alone is enough to take your breath away. It was a wonderful experience. I had informed the staff about our celebration while making resevatons. They took an extra step in making sure that we were taken care of. Turkish food is my wife's favorite cusine, and we never had better Turkish food in our lives.
The karisik meze platter was great. We than had Adana and the fish of the day. The wine selecton was amazing as well as the desserts. I highly recommend TAVA to everyone. Good Job TAVA!

For me, this restaurant was the biggest rip-off of the new millennium. My wife and I only tried this place since we received a coupon in the mail for 15% off the price of a meal. having turkish ancestry, I KNOW what good food from that locale is supposed to taste like and I can tell you without a doubt that this is NOT GOOD TURKISH FOOD. Our salads were disgusting with brown lettuce, unripe, green, hard tomatoes and an overabundance of carrots in a soup of vinegar. Yuk. The rest of the meal was just plain piss poor with poorly prepared, small portions. During the meal my wife and I kept saying to ourselves, well thank goodness we'll at least get 15% off. However, when it came time to pay, the waiter would not honor the coupon stating incorrectly that we had ordered "specials." Funny, nothng was called a "Special" on the menu. We argued, but could tell the whole coupon thing was just a scam. Do yourself a favor and Stay Away!

I am amazed at this comment as my wife and I eat at Tava on a regular basis ...... We were actually dining there this past Friday ..... We have never had brown lettuce ..... or green tomatoes ... and have always found the service to be superior, a friendly helpful staff ... more than generous with drinks and portions ..... The husband and wife owner team are gracious and make you feel like part of the family . As far as the coupon issue ........ I question that it was most likely not one of Tava's delicious specials that you ordered ..... as they have always taken our coupon for that ..... I am wondering ... and presuming that you probably ordered the wonderful prix fixed ... that gives you 3 courses for $20 ..... what a great deal ... anyone expecting to get an additional $15 off that ... is either very new to either dining or using coupons as a patron that dine out with my wife at least 3 times a week .. we are aware that no restaurant will take a coupon on the Prix fixe or and other pre discounted item !!!! 15% off a $20 dollar check .. how would anyone expect them to stay in business ?????

As I say people we have been dining at Tava for the past year ... we have taken family and friends ... and have attended friends parties with never one complaint ........ I think this guy has done them a favor with this post and that is to advertise the prix fixed menu for them ....... and I suggest that next time he would like a 3 course meal for $20 less 15% he should try Burger King

As a high standing Port Washington home owner for many years ,,, that also has a passion for fine dining .... I find the above comment insulting and bias .... I guess you should check out the Zagat review for 2009 ... I am a member are you ????

Great Ambiance !!!!!!!! excellent service and food to dye for !!!!! I love the specials that sometimes include a lamb shank that falls off the bone !!!....and have used a coupon for that ... in fact I am looking at the coupon right now and it states not to be combined with any other offers !!!!!! As do all the coupons in the book . Tava's Prix fix is an array .. of delicious items .... in fact last time I was there the Port Wash food critic was there and was raving about how authentic the food was !!!!!....
How could anyone expect to get a 3 course meal for $20 and then ask for 15% off is beyond me !!!!!!! You call it piss poor I call it piss cheap ..... another resident of Port Washington ........ Go to Lamotta's and try to get the discount off the sunset menu ..... Or Bistro Toulouse .. 2 other good restaurants in Port !!! or better still stay home and put something on the grill ... To anyone reading this Post try Tava it is wonderful

Ambiance wonderful .... food amazing ..... service second to none ...... this restaurant is a wonderful dining experience ...... dont know what this guy is talking about .... last ime I was there about a week ago the food critic for Port Washington news was there raving about how good the food was ..... I have always been given the discount off the specials .... I tend to jump for the lamb shank when it is available as it falls off the bone .... I guess also you had the fabulous prix fixed menu ... that is 3 courses for $20 and you wanted 15% off that OLOLOLOL you call it piss poor I call that piss cheap ... next time stay home and throw a ver burgers on the grill .... try going to Lamottas and using the coupon on the sunset menu or Bistro Touluese will not only not take your coupon for the price fix but require cash ..... all good restaurants ..... all excellent service I guess you dont eat out much ..... id you dont have to dough dont go ..... but I also find it offensive to trash a restaurant .. cause you are cheep ..... I agree with the other post .... to somewhat but I think that whitecastle might be better for your budget

Love it !!!! would say the ambiance was more authentic Turkish decor than Gothic .... beautiful sculptures adorn the walls.... candles light the dining area and bar .... the staff were friendly and gracious .... My martini was superb the invention of the week by the bartender .. a blood orange martini that was delightful .... at dinner I requested a glass of wine and was offered a sample just to make sure that it was to my liking.
Dinner was splendid I too had the lamb shank special and no knife was needed .... after desert we were given and complimentary after dinner drink that was also an original concoction of the bartenders ,,,, My self and my friends were most impressed by the whole evening and will return again in the near future ... we give Tava an A++++

Delicious restaurant. Friendly and attentive staff. Interesting decor. An incredibly reasonable and fun prix fixe menu. Highly, highly recommended, especially since the area has few new and different choices that are really worth the risk.

LOVED IT !!!!!!!!!! We were made to feel like we were the only customers in the place even though it was a packed Friday night and we did not have a reservation. There is only one word to describe the staff and that is "CHARMING" that was everyone down to the busboys who worked as if he owned the place. In fact the whole staff did they seemed to love what they were doing. We asked the bartender to recommend a good wine for us and in fact she suggested not the most expensive bottle on the wine list in fact a wonderful Shiraz at a very reasonable price. Then came the food ! My wife eats in the city and has experienced Turkish foods before and she says it was the best she has ever had. I had the Lentil Soup that was amazing and she couldn't decide between the Humus and the Babaghanoush so she order both ! we literally wiped the plates clean with the homemade bread which was provided. Next course was just as delightful ! we opted for the specials of the day I had a Stuffed Cabbage that was amazing and Dari my wife is still raving about the Sultans Delight she had ... it was pureed eggplant with chunks of lamb ... for desert we opted to share the Kunefe a traditional Turkish dessert served hot and consists of some kind of cheese with shredded wheat topping seared with a rosemary water ,,,,, I am trying to remember the waiters description so excuse me if I underestimate this desert as it truly was a Turkish Delight .. Our overall experience was top class from the arriving to leaving ... Tava is the place to be ...... in fact I am going to make a reservation now for this weekend ...... we can't wait to go back ... Well done to Tava and staff

A frequent customer of Tava we heard that they had split the restaurant into two and so was compelled to go check out the change. They have re-decorated with beautiful french doors one side is the traditional Turkish and the other an upbeat burger joint !!!!! serving delicious burgers, wraps, salads, hot dogs etc . I had the BBQ bacon burger the home made sauce was amazing .. my wife had the Asian Chicken Salad again the home made ginger dressing was just superb !!!!! my son really enjoyed his hot dog and my eldest daughter loved the Turkey burger with sweet potato fries while my 18 month old son ate the whole of his grilled cheese sandwich .. then we had the best shakes that we have ever had .. the place is really kid friendly with hand drawn place mats for the kids with cartoon jokes they really kept them busy while we were waiting for the food .... we had such a good time I thought nothing could top it ......then came the check and we had all this wonderful food for only $40.00 I was amazed at the value for money !! The kids loved the place and cannot wait to go back ... A great experience Port Washington needed a place like this ... THANKS TO ALL AT TAVA great concept !! great food and great service I give it a bug thumbs up !!!!!

Just tried the Burger side with my family over the weekend. Very delicious burgers and salads, crispy fries, thick milk shakes and very reasonable prices. The burger side is very kid friendly and they have a full bar.
We enjoyed the attentive staff of Tava and the delicious food. Highly recommend it. Good job Tava.

I wanna know one thing: Do they have a belly dancer at Tava? If not, they're not authentic.
