Well lets take a look back before we look forward to taxing ourselves once again. In reflection, the Commissoners put a referendum up for vote to tax gas sales with the proceeds going to the parks. That passed as everyone was assured that the added percentage would be low and that there was a cap of .13 per gallon and we would probably never need to hit the top tier. Well guess what they put it right to the top tier immediately. By now you might be asking why or how is this related to dredging and the 1/2 cent sales tax that has been swirling around. IMHO you can expect the same situation with a low ball sell job...then history repeats itself once again. I grew up in my younger years in Broward County. The Commissioners there intiated the same type of selling to the public on just a one cent tax and its temporary thing after its paid for it will go away. Guess what folks!!! After the project was paid for an annoucement was made "Since the program (meaning taxes) went so well we are going to extend it for another couple of years. It's time we learned from the past and make a stand on our taxation in this county. I applaud the improvements to make things look and operate properly however we need to keep a lock on just presenting another way to take funds from us. Regarding the dredging project ...how is it that we are dredging every year? Port Everglades does not get dredged every year so something is very wrong with this picture. Have a comment or a suggestion that will make this a better situation? Stand up and be counted then!
