While we are advancing in Health care technology to make people live longer, with tasers that technology is going to kill the people that they put so much effort into saving. Pacemakers and tasers are not a good combination.

Are Hospitals and Medical facilities going to be required to put a red or orange band on peoples neck that could be in danger from tasers as they do with play guns, so they will not be killed by law enforcement?

No, they should not be banned. That would be a kneejerk reaction to a rare, isolated incident.

The benefits far outweigh the risks.

Agreed. A taser is a way better alternative to a gun in an appropriate situation.

What we do need however is better training for the police on how and when is appropriate to use a taser. There are far too many times a taser is used when they should not be such as stories, videos etc. showing 4 cops tasering one suspect, a cop tasering a 70 year old lady, etc. Tasers should be used before a firearm, but even then only as a last resort when they physically are not able to control a situation.

Very good points.

LR is justifiably concerned that the inexperienced and underfunded Lewistown police will be trigger happy with their tasers (assuming they get a grant to pay for their tasers). He is concerned that he will get caught in the crossfire between a rookie cop and a "druggie", or the lewd vagrants who occupy the downtown.

Lewistown Resident is concerned about this because he no doubt has a pacemaker (paid for by Medicaid). One zap could spell the end for him.

Well this JunkE has still not learned, even with the number of times I told him that I am not on Medicaid, and no, I do not have a pacemaker, but I do know people that has them. It doesn't look like Lewistown is going to have a problem getting anything they need to establish the new and improved police dept.

What about a partrol car that isn't at the end of its usable life? I'm guessing more than one of them would be useful.

As usual, Lewistown Resident is looking for a handout. Grants, handouts, gifts from sky, stimulus money, call it what it really is. Relief. It's asking somebody else to cough up money for something that you are unwilling or unable to pay for yourself.

Here is an idea. If Lewistown wants to start a police force, they should make the people of Lewistown pay for it, and not expect handouts from businesses or the government.

I saw today, Lewistown is getting another $Million + Obama ARRA grant for their wastewater treatment plant. Where do you think that money comes from. It certainly doesn't come from Lewistown people.

Lewistown Resident claims not to be a reliefer, but he really is.

What does any of this nonsense from Milroy have to do with TASERS?

You need to understand context, and conversational development. It was a response to your comment about wanting a handout from Lake.

Back to tasers. What, if anything, do you propose as an alternate?........Anything?... . Didn't think so.

Ever notice that when Resident doesn't have an answer or is pinned in a corner he tries to divert the conversation with a question that has nothing to do with the previous post?

If a person is combative and is unwilling to comply with the offier's orders, they get tasered. Back in the day it was a night stick or a fist. All officers are trained to properly operate a taser and must be tasered before being allowed to carry one, and all departments have policies on when it is appropriate to use their tasers. Maybe criminals would prefer the taser be replaced with a .45 auto?
