Johnny, It's not only that another coroner might also call overdose deaths from illegal drugs ACCIDENTAL, but it seems like our coroner is in that clique to keep the information out of the public eye when these (accidents) do happen.People need to be aware how big this drug problem is in Mifflin County.

No one wants to air the family laundry in public. There was a time, not too long ago, that we had orange jump suits and news stories of drug overdoses on the front page of our newspaper. Those trying to entice business and industry to locate here saw that as a negative and pressured the media to hid it under the rug or at least several pages deep. That 3was the beginning of the end for our sleepy little town. Drug dealers and hoodlums could now come in with their business and industry safe in the knowledge that they could prosper. When the people are uninformed, they have a false sense of safety.

Yes, our elected officials bear a large portion of the blame. However, we as citizens also share the burden when we do not hold them accountable. Has it changed with the new DA? Are we better informed or safer? Will it change with a new Judge? Will it be better with a new Coroner? I have to say no. Mifflin County will not be safer or less dependent on the drug traffic until the citizens are aware of what happens on a daily basis. When will that occur and how do we make it a reality?

downgosearer,

First of all, I am not trying to blame anyone other than the user. I am simply trying to educate you why the coroner makes this finding of fact. I am sure that the majority of drug abusers do not use to die. Therefore, if they use too much and do die, it is an accident. The number one person at fault in a drug overdose is the person using. Is there some blame on the person who sold them the drugs, absolutely. But the cause of death remains ACCIDENTAL...

Why do people want to have their cake and eat it too, did you ever hear that expression? It's not the dealer that puts drugs in a persons system and they die, it's the user. So you are going to put some blame on the person giving or selling the drugs to the overdose victim, but then people also want to say that pot never killed anyone when in fact using drugs including pot distorts a person mind and because of that people die from it, but oh no,it wasn't the pot that kills people. Drug use is no accident and it is not the same as on a hot summer day a person goes out to mow their grass and after a couple of rounds they stop and drink a beer and then they die, as the coroner once told me.

You might want to read the Editorial in the Sentinel about drugs and then you might understand the coroner can play a role in curbing drug use by allowing information released to inform the community how bad the problem could be..

downgosearer,

Do you really need a coroners report to tell you that there is a drug problem in Mifflin County? There has been a drug problem in this county for a very long time. Times and Trends change over the course of time.
As many may recall, Heroin was a very popular drug in Mifflin County during the 90's, then we started to see more "crack" and other drugs come into town, now the problem seems to be prescription pills. Why scripts you ask? Well many of these abusers have realized that they can go from doctor to doctor and get many prescriptions, WHICH WE PAY FOR, and turn around and sell them to everyone, INCLUDING OUR YOUTH. Some of these doctors aid in giving these scripts to pad their pockets, without concern of what it is doing to this community. Our youth are very vulnerable and willing to try many things. This is also evident by the popularity of synthetic marijuana that was used and sold in our local convenient stores.

Maybe the coroner isn't he problem. Maybe stiffer sentences for these drug dealers would be more beneficial. Instead, we see plea agreement after plea agreement where people are getting a slap on the wrist. Maybe the DA should step up and put his foot down. If he doesn't maybe Barron will.
Its never been the judges position in this county to not accept plea arrangements, however, maybe this is something that Barron will. Just because a plea has been reached, it doesn't need to be accepted by the sentencing judge.
If we want change in this County, someone will have to step up and make that change. Maybe as Barron has platformed his "time for change" campaign he will be the willing person who will reject these ridiculous pleas.

Hiding the drug problem to entice businesses to come to Lewistown doesn't seemed to have helped. In fact, there are less and less businesses left in that dump.

These people are going to soon learn what does help is telling the truth, let people decide what they do with it. You can deceive all you want, but it will get you nowhere in the end, even Obama is going to find that out.

There is no need to blast drug arrests or anything else in the Media to satisfy a bunch of busybodys that feel they have the right to be in other peoples business. Just quietly handle the problem and keep the nosey accident gawkers in the dark. This is no ones business but the individual and the law. Why can't some of you people do something positive in your lives rather than gossip about others. NONE of your business ttt!

I wonder what happened to Santa Clause that the Sentinel has him in the Obituaries today, I hope he did not overdose, I had a lot of respect for him and I hate it that the kids won't be looking forward to him bringing them gifts.

I don't think it was from an overdose, he was old, my grandmother said he came to their house about this time of year when she was little, so I would sooner think it was from old age.

Again in Todays Sentinel, No name,Why, Probably she was drugged out and police are protecting her. They had no problem putting the name of the guy found dead at the concrete plant in the paper, However he won't be giving them any repercussions, he is dead.

As I walked into the Courthouse yesterday I heard some some rumors that the newly elected judge has made some changes. Not sure what the changes are but I hope the public in informed.
