the scout camp, was that the one that burnt? it was way over in the woods,if u went down canal street about where the old gas station was i think simsons was the name of it , go across the railroad tracks up over the hill way back in there somewhere, i can remember my dad taking us over to it one time.

Your on the right track, it did burn down in the 1950s, the remains of the concrete fireplace are still there to mark the spot. From what I was told years ago by older people it was one of the best places to go for fun in the early 1900s. I spend many good times there in 1940s.

I remember the Halloween nights we covered the school lawn with stuff we picked up around town. one was the old fire dept squad car. The flag pole always came up missing. Next morning we had to clean it up take every thing back and return the flag pole. Back in them days there was business places in town so we always soaped the windows too.

Havin Brain farts to-nite . But the barbershop around the corner from the Brick Front . Had my first barbers shave there . Port Leyden was where it was at in the 60's .

coment on the barber shop it was ran by Roy Abby? I. also remember the barber shop that was across from where the post office is before that, I think the his name was Huey Gellett. And Ruth mangans store that was where the Library is now.

How about the Barber shop where Rodney Hutchins Building is across from his store,
R.Lee Wilcox store next to Burkharts Garage now Carl's auto, Sylvester Burkhart and his brothers sold gas and did auto repairs, sold fuel oil gasoline,and sold Pontiac's and Alles Chalmers tractors, Joe Dunns store next to Hoages supperite the Hard ware store ,the cattle yard owned by Hawley Kentner, The Port Florest,Central Hotel owned by Adolph Kopack,The Village Tavern owned by Rod Loomis,Clarence Addams Garage in front of Rodney s store,Rodney s store was the bus garage,Snyder's Restaurant now is Rodney s parking lot,McDougles Restaurant in Kelpy town, Alex Riley s Heating and plumbing,Evelyn Riley s Beauty shop,Mangans Meat market,Dave Moores Mobil service station,Sullivan's Scorpion snow mobiles sales, Battles Ski Roule snow mobile sales, Hotel Richard owned by Jesse Trombley,The Drug store,Don Fields Laundry Mat, Port Leyden was a real nice Village and can still be if you would help clean up around the town I heard maybe if we talked to Rodney maybe he would clean up and arrange his business it would attract more business to town and even give him more business all it would take to help clean up our Town is a little elbow grease.

Before the addition.
