My company just announced no raises for 2yrs, no bonus 2yrs and no match to 401k unless we meet quota. So I figure it will be three yrs if we don't get laid off until we see a nickel. Amazing how teachers get raises when the people paying the salary can't afford it???

It may not be so. Most people I know will vote down all school budgets. Unfortunately it comes between, do I pay health insurance this month or do I vote yes for school budget. Many schools will be in trouble as the community continues to vote No. Many lay offs will be happening. There will be more student teacher ratio, less academic programs, sports, arts and music. Don't worry my friend, it won't be long before government steps in and takes control over school taxes also. You will start to see set salaries. Things are changing drastically some for the better and some for worse.

Step raises between 3&4 percent (they get that regardless) and other than that, who knows as school boards won't discuss the amount teachers are demanding because it's considered bad faith. Can you believe that? The tax payer isn't allowed to know the amount they are going to be hit up for!

Are you serious, you ignorant moron? You really think that you pay my salary? Even if you did, it is a small price to pay for being an extra parent to our students because their parents are not there for them. I cannot even count the number of students that complain to me and their guidance counselors that they feel as if their parents do not care. Pretty pathetic if you ask me. Almost as pathetic as your whining about your tax increase. You should go back to school and educate yourself about exactly where your tax dollars are spent and stop pointing fingers. Get a grip.

Don't hold your breath. You will not live to see a set teacher's salary as long as there are teacher unions. Sorry.

Don't ever consider yourself an extra parent to my child!!! Yes, we do pay your salary where the hell do you think it comes from??? My household pays over 6,000 towards... what, "yacht club fees?" A large portion goes to teachers salaries, health benefits, and pension. Enrollment is down, they should have cut jobs starting with yours!! I'm sure there is some kids whose parents don't give a darn, BUT living in Lindy for over 44yrs I can tell you there aren't many! Its a recession its time to give back like so many companies! Because of your post I will vote NO!

The company line is..."Vote for the budget 2.+% or else they could raise it even higher as the State allows a contingency of 4%"...this is the mumbo-jumbo that will sucker lindy residents into voting Yes. If the Board raises it to up to 4% after we vote NO, then we know their true colors and we should vote them out. Vote No and let them get it down to about 1-1.5%..THEY CAN DO IT! Don't fall for the "it's for the kids" bull!! I will vote NO. PS... and to put the proposition up regarding less buses is their way of putting the burden on the taxpayers/voters. The Board could have sharpened their pencils to put forth an even lower budget than they proposed, but they rely on the stupidity of the lindy residents. It will probably pass and this year's budget will be known as the "mumbo-jumbo budget that passed".

Just to play devil's advocate. Most companies bankrupt themselves for reasons. They are theives and mishandle the money and gives it to the big wigs. Teachers should not be pointed at as "taking your money" The amount paid is slight.

If they don't like the salaries, why don't they quit and running to corporations? Most are lazy and couldn't hold a real job in the corporate world without their tenure! I'm sick of their whinning and complaining, don't like the job, simple quit! The students would be better for it!

I believe that is a question that requires a question mark, but thank goodness there are overpaid teachers that can fix that type of incompetence with this generation.

Most of the teachers I have encountered have been wonderful, but I do not think they deserve more job stability and perks than the people who pay their salary. Companies are taking pensions away, bonuses away, and taking salary cuts. But the teachers should somehow be immune to all of that? I don't think it's right.

Does anyone know if the teachers pay for their benefits? I know there's a big stipend in the budget for teacher benefits, and I'm hoping their benefits are not fully funded. That is just plain un-American! Everyone has to pay their part!

The other thing that bugs me is "tenure". The only thing tenure does is allow bad teachers to keep their jobs. Job stability should be based on performance alone, not "tenure". Very annoying.

And to the teacher in Patchogue... where do you think your salary comes from if not from us, the tax payers?(And I really am looking for an answer here, WHERE do you think your salary comes from?)

I'm getting a little sick of teachers who do not understand that they are employees of the taxpayers!

The word slight is meant for the taxpayers. It's like 2% of your tax bill goes towards teachers and it's not teachers it's paid to the district to distribute to the teachers and staff members. Wish people can read and comprehend.
