I was born on August 18, 1965 in Wayne County Detroit. My birth mother was approximately 23 years of age at the time of my birth. She was in school to be a x-ray technician. Her father (my birth grandfather) worked for Chrysler Corporation, her mother (my birth grandmother) worked for Michigan Bell and her brother (my uncle) worked for Mueller Brass. The adoption agency that handled my case was Michigan Children’s Aid located in Port Huron (now closed) – I was adopted in October 1965. I believe my birth family is from the Port Huron area and would like any help/ information to search them out.

You can go through the state of MI to enlist a state intermediary to locate your birth parents. There is a small fee, but the state gives your file to this person and they locate your parents, obtain the authorization to release their names, and presto! The laws changed in Januray of 1995 to allow this process for parties that wanted to reunite. By June 1995, I met my birth mother! www.adoption.com is another source and there is the state registry as well.Start in the county in which you were born; the court house should refer you to the agency approved to start your search. Good Luck!

Thank you Sarah - I will investigate but my understanding is that both parties must submit paperwork to the state desiring to meet. I have already submitted my paperwork to Mich. Thanks again.

I spent 8 long years trying to find people who knew my of parents! During this time, I was denied access through the courts, and I was flat out lied to by them during my search! Contact the county in which the adoption was finalized to 'apply for a state intermediary', then they refer you to the person who will charge you a fee to 'contact' your birth parents. Once they are located by this intermediary, the state intermediary will ask them to sign the authorization papers. It is a lie that your parents will have 'signed papers randomly' if they want to be found. My birthparents had been told that I had to sign releases and that once I did so, I'd be given their names-more lies! I searched from the time I was 17 to 25 years old before finding out it only takes six months through the intermediary! It would have been soooner if my birthmother had not lived out of state, been married twice and had a new name! They thought I didn't want to meet them since I never contacted them upon adulthood; when they found out the long battle I went through, they were outraged at how I was denied my family history! Register with reunion registries, and see who recognizes your known information! PLEASE KEEP TRYING BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE TO MEET!

Robert Lynn Brown, Jr. was born in 1938 or prior, most likely in Port Huron, Michigan. The family has recently learned of this long-lost half-brother, after the recent passing of our father, Robert Lynn Brown, Sr., and his wife and our mother, Olga Dortman. From what we have learned to date, Robert senior was married to an unknown woman, who was the mother of Robert junior.

Your story sound similar to my husbands brother that was adopted before he was born. Do you have a last name to go by?

That's not true. Adoptee found a birth parent going through court and court gave info without birth parents consent.
