why cant vermonters that come over here drive the speed limit? our speed limit over here in most places is 55,if you insist on coming over the bridge,at least learn how to drive or stay in your own state and hold up traffic over there

It's too bad that any tickets in ANY township would go into the TOWN cofers WHERE it's issued. THINK OF THE "DUCKIES" for the tickets Crown Point could rack up just in IDIOT tickets, not just for speeding, BUT FOR STUPIDLY TEXTING AND CELLPHONE USAGE COMING OVER THE BRIDGE!!

It is important to note that the minimum speed on most expressways in the State of New York is 45 miles per hour. It is often just common sense to keep your actual speed limit well below the posted limit. For example, the legal limit on an icy or foggy expressway might be 55 mph, or even 65 mph on some highways, but the safe speed to drive would be much lower. Even if you were to drive at 50 mph on that hazardous highway, a police officer could ticket you for driving at a speed "not reasonable and prudent" for existing conditions. As with right of way, speed limits are not absolutes. You must adjust your speed if conditions require.
It is important to slow down:
• on narrow or winding roads;
• at intersections or railroad crossings;
• on hills;
• at sharp or blind curves;
• where pedestrians or driving hazards are present; and
• on wet or slipper roads.

i have found its not just people with green license plates that can't seem to understand the concept of a 55mph speed limit... it's the elderly. I hate to be a bastard, but if you're that old and infirm that you cannot push the accelerator of your car far enough to get to 55 or are so old that you do not have the ability or reflexes to drive, maybe you should STOP driving.

I agree, everyone should be forced to drive faster than they feel is safe! Great ideas everyone.

you miss the point of the comment. By driving 10-15mph under the speed limit, you are creating at least two traffic hazards:
1) traffic coming up behind you at the designated speed limit will be forced to brake hard causing the 'pile up' effect
2) traffic bunches up behind you causing tailgating, again leading to another pile up
3) by causing traffic to have to pass you continue at the legal speed limit, you create a situation where head-on collisions are possible.

i have been driving for 25 years and have worked as a driver for over a decade. I can say that the biggest hazard on the road is not from people going 10 over the speed limit. It's the morons going 10 under or slower.

All of those three points are situations which would be caused by the driver of the other car, not the person going a mere 10mph under the limit. Anyone driving should be paying most attention to what's coming up, regardless of speed, and making adjustments to their course and speed accordingly.
They can easily choose not to tailgate. Just because they're enraged that they can merely get to their designated location only at speeds of 40mph, faster than any land animal on earth, doesn't mean they should pressure other driver's to go faster than they feel safe.
And no-one should pass anyone, no matter how "slow" they are going unless they are absolutely sure a head-on collision will not occur.
Driving under the limit might make other people act like fools and cause accidents but that doesn't make it their fault.

It's aggressive drivers like you that cause the hazard. The minimum speed limit is 45 MPH in a 55 zone. You don't know the situation with the slower driver. Be patient and drive accordingly with the traffic condition, keep a safe distance.

excuse me, but this, quite possibly, is one of the DUMBEST posts I have ever read. Try reading any research about road rage and accident causes and el numero uno at the top the list is old people poke-assing along at 10-15mph UNDER the posted speed limit.

I don't drive for fun or relaxation; I drive because I need to get someplace, as do most people, I suspect.

Why on earth would anyone drive well below the speed limit with traffic stacking up behind them and not pull over and let the traffic pass?

Instead of getting the hell out of the way, they just drive along, oblivious about what is going on around them. Is it because they get some sence of control and superiority when they're leading the parade?

And, what about the elderly? Do they feel that they're entitled to drive however they want, that them youngen's ought just hand over respect and courtesy because they are old? I know that they're trying to slow down time, and that might be why they drive so slow, but the road is not a place to reminisce.

Asking myself, "Why do people drive so slow? Can they not see traffic piling up behind them? Or is it they just don't give a sh!t?" Being that nobody pulls over to get out of the way, I believe they just don't care.

And, what about the touchhole that when you pull out to pass him\her, speeds up so that you can't get around? What is that all about?

Road rage comes in all shapes and sizes I guess.

I believe that slow drivers who won't get the frig out of the way are why people kill people.

Nothing says you HAVE to drive the speed limit just that you can't exceed the speed limit. I drive the way I want and when I'm doing wrong the police will tell me.

Actually there is a law against driving too slow and to impede the normal flow of traffic although it is rarely enforced.It can be two points on your driving record.
