Charlotte County Public Schools have discipline policies that parents should question. If you or someone you know has had their child recommended for expulsion, or some other ridiculous "over reaction" to kids making the same foolish mistakes that we made when we were kids, I would welcome your story. There is power in numbers---let's get together and reclaim our parental authority and stop CCPS from abusing the power we give them as taxpayers----yes, parents, THEY work for US!!! Let's not let them forget it!!

Wow, what outrage...look at all the replies. Oh, I guess the parents of the 99% who are not asked to remove their students don't mind sending their kids to a sane school. Education takes focus, and the millions in taxpayer money is not for babysitting troublemakers. Do your parenting job first...take responsibility! In this economy, we can't short change our children's future for parents like you.

Dear Chips and "Dip",

Your post demonstrates that you are a jack ass with nothing better to do. You obviously have no clue what I am trying to address here. You must be a perfect parent to a perfect teen to throw stones so freely. Or, perhaps, you are among those employed by CCPS who has lost sight of who signs their paycheck. Whoever you are, you are absolutely correct when you say taxpayer money is NOT for babysitting troublemakers. Unfortunately, CCPS doesn't agree.

By the way, "Dip", how do you define a troublemaker? Is it the boy who is expelled from his school for getting into a fist fight with his best friend over a girl?(imagine that, outrageous behavior for a 14 yr old, right?)...Is it the student who is arrested and now has a criminal record for having a Xanax in his pocket?(although, the likes of you would probably suggest the parents be arrested too, since the only way kids can get a hold of their parents' meds is for the parents to carefully place it in their hands, correct?)... Or would a troublemaker be the 13 yr old boy who is observed "touching" his 13 yr old girl friend on the outside of her shirt, then accused of lewd and lascivious molestation, whose life could be ruined if placed on a sexual predator list?

These are just a few instances in which CCPS did not allow parents to do their "parenting job and take responsibility!!!" (as you put it).

So again, I ask that other parents and students who have been kicked to the curb by CCPS---Please speak up!!

And you, Chips and "Dip", can stick a cork in it!!

And who are you? Another "perfect" person, who never made a mistake when you were a teen? We are talking about CHILDREN here, that need guidance, OUR guidance!! They certainly don't need to be labeled and tossed aside, and in some cases---criminalized! The examples I give are like deja vu for me---I was in middle school in the 70's, and similar situations occurred---but children were not arrested, and amazingly, they all managed to "grow up" and are now successful, well adjusted people.

Yes, I agree the school system in Charlotte County tries to assume too much power over parents.

A woman I work with was put through hell last year---had to spend thousands on a lawyer becuase her son was accused of a sexual crime. A third party student reported seeing her son and another female student "grabassing"---When these children were questioned about it, her son was truthful about his part, the girl lied and denied it because she didn't want to face the consequences. So the principal and the school resource officer coerced the girl who ends up telling more lies, accusing the boy of things that never happened and never admits to what she did---e.g., slapping the boy in his genitals. The principal never gave the boy a chance to defend himself once the false accusations were made. She just suspended him, sent him home with is parents, then had him expelled from his school and sent to The Academy. Since then, my friend has gone into debt to pay for a lawyer who was able to convince the D.A. to lower the charge to simple battery (a sexual charge would have stayed on the boys record forever and ruined his life). He has done community service as part of some sort of diversion program. Its been a year now and it's still not over for them---she has yet to take her son to be fingerprinted---a requirement for expunging his record. We all couldn't believe she wasn't fighting this, but she said she was too afraid to gamble with her son's life---to fight it would have been to fight the original sexual charge, and she couldn't risk ending up before a judge who might be just as unreasonable as the school principal.

All this because a couple of 13 yr old kids were grabassing? All I can say is I'm glad my children are grown and not in this school system today. I feel so bad for my friend---she and her husband are good parents with a loving home. They punished their son adequately for what he did---the school, on the other hand, took it way too far.

ccps are only out for funding money.thats all they care about.and if they dont get what they want they will start trouble for you.and your family.i have interviewd many familes in port charlotte and most of them have had nothing but problems and had to hire lawyers because the school sysytem is so screwed up and was trying to start trouble.many of the familes have either pulled there childrena nd placed them in other schools in diffrent counties or they have left the state all together.

my advice for single parents and low income familes dont get on the schools bad side cause they will keep you under radar

schools get money for reporting discipline issues to the state so they have to find any reason to keep funneling kids thru the academy to keep state funds coming in, otherwise the teachers over there might lose their jobs. thats more important than doing whats best for kids.

in response to appalled:
i think its crazy, to call grabassing a sexual crime, when i was 12-13 yrs old ihad a few boys grab my as or grab my boobs, and sure at the time i acted like i didnt like it but now i can say that deep down i enjoyed the attention, i didnt know any better. to me it meant that they liked me or thought i was pretty. I know it was foolish to think that and i had many a talk with my mother about it who set me straight. sounds like the boy in this case was punished severely. what did the parents of the girl do to teach her a lesson? and in my opinion it was irresponsible of the adults in this to make out like it was a crime, why would they try to ruin a kids life over this? i just dont get it...also what a huge waste of our taxes.

It seems a bit odd that you are blackballing the entire Charlotte County School system. It also seems equally interesting that your posts appear to be coming from Cape Coral and Naples - neither of which is in Charlotte County.

Here's a thought. Perhaps you should spend less time posting your rants on an Internet discussion forum and more time doing something about it. Posting it here doesn't count and it shows that you may lack the spine to do something which requires you to identify yourself rather than hiding behind a nickname.

Calling someone you have never met a "jackass" and to put a "cork in it" just shows your level of ignorance and lack of intelligence. It only takes someone with common sense to recognize that.

Parenting skills are greatly lacking in today's society. I've never had 5 minutes of trouble with any of my daughters. And the oldest is now a teacher in the Lee County school system. We refused to tolerate stupidity and disrespect at home and at school. My parents did the same with me when I was in high school in the late 70's.

Your arguments here just make you look like an idiot. But, it's good entertainment for those of us who know better. Get a grip.

First of all, John, I have not blackballed the entire CCPS system. My discussion is clearly about discipline policies---that's it. Also, I find it "interesting" that someone in your line of work would not know that the city that accompanies the post does not necessarily correlate with the poster's physical location.

You are much like your friend, Chips and Dip, except a bit more articulate, perhaps. Your post is off-topic and you offer nothing of value. You also criticize me for my interaction with someone I do not know, yet YOU do the same thing by questioning my intelligence and calling me an idiot. You certainly do not know me, nor do you know what "I am doing about it". This forum is just one platform, and yes, because of people like you, I choose anonymity on here---but CCPS's administrators and superintendents---they know my name and face very well.

By the way, congratulations for having raised stepford children. You have no idea how fortunate you are to be on that side of the fence. Though, I'm still wondering---what does your oldest working for LCPS have to do with anything? My oldest is on track for med school---does that somehow make me more credible?

I think YOU are the one who needs to "get a grip".

If you really want to do something about the school call the ACLU 1-877-634-5454. With enough people call in the issues it would work better then just a letter on the web. I have different issues with the schools, but I agree with most of you and I feel the schools are incompetent. I have already placed my call.

I live in the CCPS school district my child is the 3rd to go thru it. I wont even go back to the information I received about my daughter when she was in high school, but now I have a son in middle school, I am not saying he is the perfect kid, he is a boy who is a plays around and does little things, but my son has been accused of a crime he did not commit another child got mad at him so he told them my son did something he did not do and then the other childs friends joined in as witness.
My son heard from friends that he was being accused of something he did not do spoke with a teacher that also said he did not do this that he was being arrested and charged. My son tryed going to the office to see what was going on, he was instructed to go back to class someone would send for him after he went back to class the school resource officer and a school official came to his classroom told him to get his things in front of the class that he would not be coming back after he was outside the classroom he was asked to face the wall where he was read his miranda rights and handcuffed at 14 and non combative. He was then interrogated again without my knowledge and scared
in to telling he did something that he did not do a then un handcuffed he was told he would be taken to jail if he did not say he did it.
By the time my husband and I were called the was already being charged we were told to come pick him up in front of me the school rsc told him it is because of people like him that people hurt themselves everyday. He was suspended from school for 10 days and now I receive a call that he is is being sent to a Academy for behavorial problems, and they cant get me in until Wednesday now going on 3 weeks being out of school while we are receiving truancy letters and phone calls that he is not in school and I have called to the school no one will return my phone calls, I have now had to hire a attorney due to my son being criminally charged as well. One of my sons friends wore a thsirt that he wrote "bring back my sons name" this child was handcuffed in his classroom, taken to the office the shirt was taken and he was put in iss for the day and on probation for rest of year, for wearing a tshirt. This is outta of control and I do not to what to do. Any suggestions
