This is more common the one would think... It happened in our family. Years back I talked to Charlie Dent about this, nothing can be done. I even went as far as to an AARP meeting in East Allen Township and tried to talk to serior citizens about this, NO ONE CARED!!!! NO ONE CARED!!!

THIS IS THE PERFECT CRIME

Also once the person becomes POWER OF ATTORNEY it is very hard to prove in COURT that the eldery person didn't say, oh she/he gave me the money as a gift.... she/he told me that I can have it.... she/he told me that I COULD CHANGE BANK ACCOUNT(S) AND HAVE RIGHTS TO SURVIVORSHIP!!!!

JUST TRY TO PROVE OTHERWISE IN THE COURT OF LAW!

''She did not steal from anybody,'' said DeLeon's mother..."

Riiigghhhttt. It is absolutely normal for someone to drain the account of an Alzheimer's patient. The mother is as whacked as the daughter!

"In a bad economy, he said, those entrusted with the care of older people's money ''are tempted to use that money as their own..."

It's only tempting to those who are dishonest thieves. A normal, caring person would NOT be tempted to STEAL like this.

And yet, this woman is caring for ANOTHER elderly person now? I guess once you wipe out someone, then it's time to move on and wipe out someone else.

Disgusting... Lock up this thief!

This women is no different than the court system taking advantage of the vulnerable people,so what is this judge talking about?
That would be the pot calling the kettle black.

Another way to fight elder abuse is to clean up the nursing homes and start prosecuting those responsible for stealing money to provide subhuman services...

I'd suggest going after the ranked bottom feeders first, like Manor Care and Westminster Village.

I have a long time friend whose mother died, father remarried a gold digger, who somehow got power of attorney of all of his financial affairs, and channeled all of his assets to HER family leaving the real son (and daughter) with nothing and even minus their childhood home proceeds! It was ALL legal due to that power of attorney that was awarded her when her second husband was beginning to fade mentally. He signed everything over to her that wasn't nailed down in his mental state. This woman is an example of evil incarnate! The real son and daughter had no case, the door was slammed shut! Somewhere there are people enjoying the fruits of another family's long term labor. Be very careful when POA is awarded and pay attention at the time it happens!

She didn't steal from anyone says her mother..what a joke. Her mother is an idiot also. Yeh its ok to spend 200,000 of someone elses money in two years. She supposivly said to use her money. Normal working people dont need 200,000 in two years to pay their bills. She's just a thief and should be locked up. Yeh she could volunteer at her sons schools, The lazy pos didn't have to work. Oh wait she did work she wrote out over 190 checks to herself.

I wonder if the schools where she greatfully offers her time in fundraising are looking back at their expenses vs profit.

I would not at all doubt if the lawyer in this case was in cahoots with this gold digger, he probably got a kickback

this a shame, it's bad enough she has to live her final years in poor health that she reuqires a nursing home, they suck you dry of all your life savings anyway...but to have someone who you think is supposed to care for you..inexcusable. I hope the woman can live with herself. She is going to be old and sick one day too, probably in prison, then she'll see what kind of care SHE gets!

Your story is very similar to mine what happen to my Aunt.

The day that she went into the hospital and had no chance of comming out, all bank accounts & CD's were changed by the Power of Attorney.

I was told by my attorney that it is a civil matter and criminal charges can not be filed!

This is what they call it in Liberia......my father was victimized by one of these low lifes she was my mothers caretaker first then after my mom died she became my fathers "girlfriend. My father is 79 years old and this woman is some where between 35-48 years old. She moved in with her plan when my dad was just starting to grieve the death of my mother. She worked for a Lehigh Valley caregivers company. They don't screen these people well enough. She started small in the amount of money she asked him for then over the course of three years she started asking him to write checks for much bigger amounts until she drained him of all his life savings. Elder abuse is very common so protect your loved ones. Unforunately my dad wouldnt listen to his grown children. He now lives off his pension check only and he may not be able to keep his house. This woman is still employed in an area (Lehigh Valley) nursing/self care facility and it makes me sick to think that she's probably looking for her next victim.
