I'm a single mother from Kentucky, and I am looking to relocate to the Port Angeles area and was wondering how the job market was? I know that its not really good anywhere, but i just wanted to have an idea of what is out there. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome Single Mom from Kentucky. Glad you could find us here in Port Angeles. You asked if the job market was alive, and my answer is that it is, but that largely is a function of what you can do. If you are in the medical profession, it seems like the hospital and clinics are regularly hiring here, and they seem to get paid well and have great working conditions. If you are a Realtor, forget it. Real estate is dead everywhere. If you are work in the retail business, well, that's pretty slow. If you are a teacher, that depends on whether any local teachers are leaving. In other words, some niches are slow and some are good, depends on what your career experience is. You can check out a new online newspaper here at " Sequim-News.com " It includes classifieds and real estate search features and articles. Good luck to you, and we do hope you do make Port Angeles your new home.

PA is a depressed old logging town. Unless you want to work at the lumber mill or Wal Mart I suggest you look at other areas.

Interesting point Joe makes, but there's an entire town here, and a lot of us are not only thriving, we love raising our families and working here. Just my opinion. A couple from Arizona bought a water front lot recently, and they are planning to build their retirement home, because, as they said, this is an incredible place to retire for a lot of reasons that are unique to Port Angeles.

Single mom is asking what the job market is like in the Port Angeles area. I regularly watch the job market and can tell you that the classifieds in the Peninsula Daily news has shrunken significantly. What used to be several columns is now barely 20 ads looking for help on a good day. The number of people competing for those jobs has increased. The same jobs at the hospital have been open for many months and they've recently changed the way that the vacancies are listed so that it's no longer possible to see the date that the job was posted. It's my own feeling that at this time Port Angeles is a place that is better suited for someone who: is retired, doesn't mind driving a long distance to work or someone who telecommutes. We've got great transportation to Seattle and high-speed internet.

I grew up there. And there are more jobs in Kentucky then in Port Angeles. They dont allow any industry to come to that area, and taxes are out of this world there. You sneeze you pay tax. Now maby if you were to go to the Seattle area or even in Organ to relocate.

It's the same everywhere. A lot of papers don't even have classifieds.
