Full story: Hartford Courant

The freshly irrigated fairways are green and lush; the greens are cut short and are well manicured; and all the holes have been equipped with spiffy new signs giving golfers an overview of the challenge ahead.

East Hartford golfers are very fortunate. When MDM took over the Laurel View Country Club from the Town of Hamden, the course improved ten-fold. Have high expectations and you will not be disappointed.

The P&W Spare Parts League has been playing in E.H. for over 40 years. We noticed a definite improvement in the course conditions on the first night of play. It is the best it has been in years and is getting better. I hope my score does too. We look forward many more years of enjoyment.

I think the worst thing to happen was when the new management took over. They have little concern for the individual golfer and only seem to care about what a great job they did at other courses. The course is devoid of simple amenities, like benches, ball washers, trash cans and yardage markers. They recently re-set many distance markers, which now vary up to 10 yards from the previous markers, which they left both in the fairway and on the sprinkler heads. Their response was "The new ones are right, the old ones were wrong." However it is impossible to tell the new ones from the old ones. The head pro is self centered, rude and discourteous, and I've seen more golf supplies in Ocean State Job Lot than in the pro shop. I would suggest you avoid this course like the plague.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Gemini

Grit your teeth as Mars turns retrograde, as things annoyingly don't go to plan. Certain people are going out of their way to be difficult. Is an older relative throwing the proverbial weight around and telling you what to do? The greater the gap between your ages or social status, the more irritated you'll be.
